Barrett Jackson: Corvettes bringing in some dough

just watching Barrett Jackson today on Speedvision. Looks like the early 60s corvettes are bringing in some serious cash(>150K). I only saw one Porsche which was an 83 Turbo Cab Slantnose, 37K miles, which sold for $39,000. U was hoping to see some RSs and RSRs. Its on till 6pm central so we will see. Whats the deal with the 100,000 dollar Olds 442s? Interesting to see what these custom cars are bringing too.

Isn't that show from last year? I have been flipping channels today and caught a few cars.

Yea, it's from last January, but still fun to watch. I pray that this year, they get Alan Decadeenea ( or however he spells it) off the stage because he knows nothing about those cars. He stated " yes this corvette is nice, but there is some rust coming through on the hood". And on the $100,000 Oldsmobile 442, he said "its only a 3 speed and should be a 4 spd." This was the car that is well documented and winner at the Olds convention. He should stay in Europe and read more.

Alan is great for foreign stuff, but out of his league with all the American iron. I wish they'd have more variety on there, I get tired of only seeing musclecars. I know I could find better things to spend $100k on than a '57 Chevy. It is Speed Network though, aka the Nascar network, so give the people what they want I guess.

This year's auction starts in a couple weeks. Here is the P-car line-up (so far), including an interesting 917 "remanufactured coupe":

How about they keep Alain de Cadenet and lose the parade of over-restored Detroit Dirigibles and the old men who covet them?

I saw that last year, they had some cool Porsche, as well as Ferrari, Aston Martin, etc stuff, but showed very little of it on Speed.

RallyJon, you and I agree -- for once. DeCadenet knows more about cars that the collective 'brainpower' of PPBBS put together.

I could care less about any "Porsche" they're auctioning at B-J. It's a Ford/Chevy/Mopar crowd trying to recapture lost youth.

And 4 of the 16 "Porsches" are fakes.

Don't get me wrong: I enjoy watching the auction, but mostly to see Amy and try to figure out why certain cars bring so much more than others.

So many cars last year went for less than half of the restoration investment, I wondered why the sellers had agreed to "no reserve." And the RS that brought only $90K? I would never sell a Porsche at B-J for no reserve.

I would never sell anything foreign period for no reserve at BJ. Most of the stuff I've seen go that isn't American iron has seemed kind of low, I guess it's the wrong crowd to appreciate an RS or DB5.

Barrett Jackson has basically ruined the American muscle car market.
They have driven the price of them up to rediculous levels. People are asking outrageous amounts for there cars now , especially Mopars. Prety much everyone i know that are into 60's and 70's cars hates Barrett jackson.

Did you see the 1997 993 cab with only 233 miles sell for $58000. If this car sold for $93000, that is taking a real bath. Ugly color, turquoise with a turquoise interior. The commentator even called it a feminine color scheme.

True that. Ironically, the guy I got my 914 from, a P car mechanic is very into old Mopars.

The day I bought my car, he sold a 1970 Super Bee for $20,000, and we had to push it onto the trailer, something about it being a 440 6 pack 4 speed with the heater delete option Apparently the heater delete means it was originally sold in Hawaii, incredible the useless trivia you can find out if you hang out with the right crowd. He sold a 1967 440 Belvedere for $15K, a 1967 Hemi car with no drivetrain, but otherwise complete for $25K, a dual 4 barrel intake with carbs and linkage from a hemi car for $3k, a few radiators for $1000 each(hemi radiators, whatever that means) One guy wanted to buy my brothers 1968 Barracuda Notchback 383 4 speed that was not for sale. You never saw so many overweight white guys drooling over somthing you would expect to find in a field with weeds growing out of it. Lots of the Mopar stuff is really hard to find, and the companies doing reprodutions are concentrating on Ford and GM.

He sold a 1970 Hemi roadrunner convertible to some guy from Nebraska a few years ago for $150,000. One of 3 made I guess.

I bought the only car he had that you could drive with 10 alloy wheels and boxes of spare parts for under $2000.

Right on. I've seen B-J coverage where Craig stepped in and tried to bring bidding up, but he doesn't seem to have much leverage with the crowd. Serious B-J bidders decide what they want to pay during inspections and discussions well before the actual auction.

True but the problem is , now you have people with total POS cars that think that they are worth billions. Ive always been a big Mopar person. Been into them for over 25 yrs!( man i'm gettin old). Ive seen the prices in the past 2 yrs skyrocket. Before that you couldnt give them away. Guys in the Mopar circle( or the muscle car circle in general) all agree that BJ has pushed the prices up.
