Oh yeah? I'm a conservative and I found a lot there valid bud. Except perhaps for describing sitting in an office all day as being an "easy" job. I'd hate it.

I intentionally read the "conservative" press, and I listen to Fox, just because I truly want to believe that there are some things the administration has accomplished. It’s too depressing otherwise.

But it’s all varying versions of Nul, some foaming at the mouth more, some less. After 5 years in complete control of Washington, 90% of what I see and read from the Bush supporters are attacks on "liberals," "traitors," and Bill Clinton.

Out of control spending, massive debt left to our children, a culture of corruption, secrecy in government not seen since the Nixon administration, a botched response to Katrina, failing grades on homeland preparedness, massive intelligence errors, attacks on science, warrantless wiretaps, eroding civil rights, and of course a tragic war that has created more radical Muslims than we could ever kill, a war that will result in a gift to radical Muslims everywhere -- control of Iraq.

A small man in a big office.

I'm particularly impressed with how they've sold the idea of borrowing money to give tax cuts. It's quite astounding.

Unfortunately we have this thing called "Democrats", who have this propaganda arm called "the media"...The two combined would screech like a boy crying wolf if Bush did anything but increase spending...Ask Ronald Reagan.

The fact is Bush spent LESS than the Democrats would have. The only difference is the Democrats would have driven the economy into a deeper recession by raising taxes and they would have appeased the terrrorists, causing more terrorism.

No, most of us have your full measure quite well.

It's one of complete lack of morals and blind faith in a leader at a religious level.

You'll contribute to the Bush'ist Library. Heavily if you can find work.

I don't often agree with Keillor, but that piece was right on the money.

Let's see:

1. Invaded a country to find the mastermind of the worst attack on American soil in our history. FAILED.

2. Invaded another country illegally justifying the naked aggression with visions of mushroom clouds over New York City, then when no evidence of the nuclear capability were found, moved immediately to justifying the war crime as a invasion to liberate people. FAILED.

3. Supported and demanded the largest federal welfare increase in 40 years for the wealthiest cohort of Americans in the population, a program that isn't reaching those it was intended to reach and is costing more than projected. FAILED.

4. Signed into law a huge restriction on the 1st Amendment, Campaign Finance Reform, reducing freedom in America. FAILED.

5. Signed into law and is demanding an extension of the largest intrusion into the privacy of every American in US history, the Patriot Act. FAILED.

I could go on, but I think the point is well and truly made that G. W. Bush will not go down as the greatest president, not even a good president.

In fact Bush is working on moving into the top ten worst presidents, which may be his only success.

Mul, are you suggesting the right and left have merged?

You're probably too young to remember but there was a time in California that republicans actually voted to improve the state and democrates only voted when they were about to lose something. Not anymore though. Can you come up with something original and a lot less dated?

More armchair quarterbacking than ever in this thread...

Somebody help me out here. I'm a young guy, I want to hear both sides of the issue. I can vote in the upcoming elections of '06 and '08. What would you DO differently? I want detailed answers. Not "the opposite of what Bush does." Not a nondescript Kerry "plan." Not "well, I'd have done this differently.." Let's hear it. Details. What would you do to fix the country starting today, Feb. 9, 2006?

Put half the energy into the answer to that as you do criticizing Bush and we may have a viable alternative plan.

I posted this many times (versions thereof) some 3-5 months ago:

From having a beer with our President to Intelligent Design to trade deficits with China to a war concocted by the Bush I Secretary of Defense (Dick Cheney for you younguns) hired to "finish the job," this Country has gone backwards in the last 5 years.

Where is the national high-speed data infrastructure necessary to keep our businesses competitive in a global market and all of our citizens, from the the inner city poor to the suburbar middle class connected, informed, and educated at rates 60 times our current infrastructure?

Where is the "Transportation Energy Independence" program on the scale of The New Deal, Tennessee Valley, Man on the Moon such that 5 years we will reduce our dependence on foreign oil for transportation by 35%?

Where is the topshelf education system in which teachers are held accountable and the very best ones are just breaking 6 figures, every student has a computer that is theirs to keep, every student has books, music class and fully funded after-school programs.

This is VISION. This is what I expect from our President and the future of our Country.

1. Taken immediate steps to remove all US government troops on foreign soil.

2. Taken the information presented by the previous administration on known terrorist activities, which included warnings of attacks in America, straight to the CIA and FBI with an executive order that read prevent any and all attacks directed against American soil, coordinate among your agencies to the extent possible to enable this prevention, lack of success will result in mass terminations at the highest levels.

3. Requested tax cuts across the board of at least 40%, more when it's clear that cuts don't require the money. Forbidding the shifting of money saved in one sector to another. Directing the IRS to stop collection activities, and to start looking for other employment.

4. Reduced the active duty military across the board, and after completing that task, reduced reserves to the extent necessary to protect America, and only America. Reduce the US Navy to a size that corresponds with patrolling US waters and defending American ports. Reduce the US Air Force to Air National Guard units only.

5. Terminated all foreign aid.

6. Closed the Voice of America and all other cold war relic government activities.

7. Close the federal government's highway departments, turning over all road maintenance (money) and construction to the several states.

8. Terminated the Departmewnt of Education.

9. Terminated the EPA.

10. Terminated the Army Corp of Engineers.

11. Sell off the TVA.

12. Terminated the Bureau of Land Management and turn over all lands illegally dominated by them to their rightful owners, the states.

13. Close all national parks, turning them over to the states, or in cases where actual title is held by the federal government, selling them to individuals (not corporations which are government created entitiies)

14. Terminated the BATFAE and after examining their agents records, sending those that have commited crimes to jail awaiting trial, putting those that need it into mental hospitals until cured or tried, and firing the rest.

15. Canceling all federal SWAT squads, firing those that can't be retrained.

16. Terminating NASA and selling off all its' assets.

That's just for starters, I'm sure I can come up with more, a lot more.

Pat, what exactly do you hope to gain from posting these little diatribes? You convince precisely no one, and make yourself look silly.

If you are open minded and naturally curious, please keep in mind that each side of an issue may not deserve equal time or even be valid. Learn to weed through the muck and learn to follow the money to see who proposed what and where their funding comes from.

If you tend to be closed minded and naturally suspicious, please keep in mind some people will speak from their hearts (not typically our leaders) and everyone has an opinion. Also, every party has an agenda (including our beloved Libertarians), but that does not mean they are evil, weak, strong, sensitive or insensitive. This agenda often includes preaching to the choir to support the things you already know or have taken for granted (money is the root of all evil, blondes have more fun.......... whatever).

Political parties are like corporations, they can behave like psychopaths. Be wary, be very wary, but most of all make up your own mind and get involved.
