Non sequitur. Did the Republicans find any Iraq war veterans to run on their ticket yet?

Ok, Kach. I just reread the Post article. In three pages, less than one paragraph was devoted to her positions. What I gathered on her positions was: she wants the AMT fixed (I agree), she thinks abortion should not be a political issue (I agree), she thinks health care costs are too high (I agree), she thinks Iraq was a mistake (I disagree), but says she was very happy to and proud to be there. I did not read a single word about what she would do to fix any of these things.

Tech, I'm not aware of any Repubican plan to recruit candidates based on their war service, since it has very little to do with one's politics and does not in itself make one fit for office.

Never were in the top 10% of your class were ya Rick?

From page two:

Quote:
In her civilian life, she was a manager for Rotary International. As an Army captain, she rose to command 42 soldiers. She was about to transfer when the unit was called to duty in Iraq. She persuaded her superiors to reverse the move, saying, "There was no way I was going to let them go without me."
From page three:

Quote:
But she believes the decision to invade was an error, and a badly executed error at that.

"I think it was a bad decision. I think we used bad intelligence. I think our priority should have been Afghanistan and capturing Osama bin Laden," Duckworth says. "Our troops do an incredible job every single day, but our policymakers have not lived up to the sacrifices that our troops make every day."

Asked whether she feels she lost her legs on an unworthy mission, she replies: "I was hurt in service for my country. I was proud to go. It was my duty as a soldier to go. And I would go tomorrow.".
It was my duty as a soldier to go. And I would go tomorrow."

What's not to respect about her Rick?

I guess you weren't either. Where in the passages you posted does it say anything about what she plans to do to fix the few problems she mentioned?

That's your thesis Rick, the one where she earns your respect based on her political views.

Not my practice, but I guess it's yours.

She earned my respect when I saw in uniform, her sitting in front of me at the Press Club a year ago. I respect plenty of other Dems too, but it doesn't mean I'd vote for them.

I see that you have tried to clarify your pre-existing conditions for "due respect", seem to be based on: positions on issues and policy choices.

That is where you and I differ I guess.

I can have respect for what she has done and give "due respect".

I did the same for George H.W. Bush (senior/41) when he ran for the GOP nomination against Reagan, but not for Olie North (at any time) because of the Iran-Contra affair and his involvement.

I trust this defines my "due respect" parameters for you.

Although North had been granted limited immunity for his testimony, he was later convicted of criminal charges related to Iran-Contra activities (a conviction that was eventually overturned on the grounds that witnesses had been influenced by his immunized testimony).

Actually, it does. Especially in North's case since his opponent was also a Vietnam vet.

His opponent was the American people and the truth.

Take it easy Kach. It's not like Chuck Robb was a shining example of truth himself.

Quote:
In November 1986, North was fired by President Reagan, and in July 1987 he was summoned to testify before televised hearings of a joint Congressional committee formed to investigate Iran-Contra. During the hearings, he admitted that he had lied to Congress, for which he was later charged among other things. He defended his actions by stating that he believed in the goal of aiding the Contras, whom he saw as "freedom fighters," and said that he viewed the illegal Iran-Contra scheme as a "neat idea."

North was tried in 1988 in relation to his activities while at the National Security Council. He was indicted on sixteen felony counts and on May 4, 1989, he was convicted of three: accepting an illegal gratuity, aiding and abetting in the obstruction of a congressional inquiry, and destruction of documents (by his secretary, Fawn Hall, on his instructions). He was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Gerhard A. Gesell on July 5, 1989, to a three-year suspended prison term, two years probation, $150,000 in fines, and 1,200 hours community service.

However, on July 20, 1990, a three-judge appeals panel overturned North's conviction in advance of further proceedings on the grounds that his public testimony may have prejudiced his right to a fair trial. [2] The Supreme Court declined to review the case, and Judge Gesell dismissed the charges on September 16, 1991, after hearings on the immunity issue, on the motion of the independent counsel.

Essentially, North's convictions were overturned because he had been granted limited immunity for his Congressional testimony, and this testimony was deemed to have influenced witnesses at his trial.
he admitted that he had lied to Congress

A sucmbag who disgraced his uniform..........just an example.

The Democrat party is exploiting this woman's disabilities, in the process they are undermining the war, undermining resolve and giving aid and comfort to the enemy...The exploitation of "the people's" problems is what the Democrat party is all about.

Fortunately for the DNC, democrats would elect a monkey if it was pro-abortion...they do it all the time.

Actually you have it backwards, it was the Congress that disgraced the uniform, the military and America,...North is a hero by any measure.

Here are the scumbags...

An admirable story, but sad nonetheless. It's sad because she's decided to enter the political arena in support of a multitude of socialist programs, for one wing of the American Warfare/Welfare Party, and is already campaigning for government healthcare for everyone.

If she wants to stop people like herself from being injured in similar circumstances, she's picked the wrong venue.
Why don't you just beat her over the head with one of her artificial legs and beat some sense into her.
She gets the same respect as a human being that has suffered life altering injuries as anyone else.

Her views, which are a socialist agenda, get no respect from me at all. Further, did I hear her say, in any language at all, that she's opposed to foreign military interventions of any kind, for any reason short of an attack on America itself? No, so by implication, she's a supporter of the welfare/warfare state like many Democrats are. There's no honor in and certainly no respect for that.

I'll see your pathetic comparison and raise you a dictator on ice.

Patsy, Harkin and Kerry were in full support of Ortega; in fact Ortega was a celebrity for the Democrat party and their elitist friends...not true of Rumsfeld's relationship with the now imprisoned Saddam Hussein.

It's completely the same. Rumsfeld was in Baghdad to assure Hussein that, as a Bush retainer, he'd have the full and complete support of the US government for as long as he needed it. This was so he could wage aggressive war against the Iranian theocratic government.

Talk about your blow-back. It's much worse now.
