Macs are a breath of fresh air. Elegant and functional. And now, with the dual Intel processor, if I really must go to the dark side on occasion, I can go there with my Mac.

But now that they've finally started using Intel processors and have the ability to run Windows, a whole new world has opened up to Mac users. Despite the fact that they now have the ability to run 90% more software than they ever could before, all they'll probably think of doing is continuing to knock Windows. Pfeh. Myths. Macs cost all of 10-13% more than equivalent Dells. The bundled software is worth at least that much to many users. The fact you can go to the Genius Bar and get free support long after the warranty is gone is worth a bit, too.

I've been using a 2-button mouse on my Macs for a couple of years -- the support is built in to OSX.

But last year, Apple introduced a five-function mouse.

Yeah, definitely. I'd love to pay 30% more for a prettier machine that can only run 10% of the software of a Windows machine. Especially since virtually 100% of the cutting edge technology that comes out these days is released for Windows first...

For my part, I think Macs are nice machines, and appreciate them for what they are. Too bad most Mac users are so elitist and feel the need to kick Windows every chance they get. Gets my goat.

1) I know countless people who have, as it's called "defected" to MacOS because of the crap they've had to put up with because of Windows. That means fewer people buying Dells, IBMs, HPs, etc, and more buying Macs. It makes perfect sense - think about it.

There is nothing on the windows side as easy or elegant as iMovie and iDVD. Combine that with built in web and mail clients, and iWork, and you can do 95% of what most people do on computers (or wish they could). Except for games. Damn, we still don't have Freecell on the Mac...

Don't you think that if Microsoft reserved the right to itself to make every box that Windows would ever run on, they could guarantee that Windows and every piece of hardware would run more reliably?

Windows has to run on a wider variety of processors, peripherals, and hardware than Apple even knows exist. If Apple can't achieve better reliability controlling the hardware, they shouldn't even be in business. Still, my home Windows machine hasn't crashed in over four years. My neophyte 70 yr. old+ parents have been running XP for over two years without a serious issue. Maybe 'all' those people you know are just 'challenged'?

What gets my goat is Apple zealots badmouthing Windows when it's obvious they haven't got a clue about computers in general or how they work.

Stick with the Mac if you want. I really don't care, and to be honest, I don't think anyone else does either, except another Mac user looking for solidarity. I've been in IT 15+ years and have dealt with both Mac and Windows. I've had multiple problems with both, and neither one is perfect by far.

The scorn, however, seems to come predominantly from people who can't manage more than a one-button mouse. That's really what gets my goat.

Oh yeah. They were my biggest customers in IT when I worked at LucasArts. For 5% of the company using Macs, they generated 20% of the helpdesk calls.

Whoa buddy, back up the truck. Im a professional software engineer so I think Im qualified to comment on the differences in these two systems. Better, worse, sure I've got my opinions, but here is what I know: When I work on a Windows machine, I can expect my productivity to decrease by as much as 50% compared to my Mac and its getting worse with every new Mac update (which happen in small amounts, not huge blobs of crappola). Find a bug? Rest assured it will be fixed in a matter of months, not years and years, if ever.

Windows might as well have been built in the dark ages. Its made of wood and rope and mortar, powered by mules and donkeys. Its a hopped up Plymouth Reliant with a duct-tape and 2x4 wing screwed to the trunk. It'll get you there, but the ride is going to suck, and chances are it'll make a fool of you along the way.

Name 1, just 1 application that the average consumer could want or need that is not cross platform or does not have a comparable equivalent on the Mac.

Cause I've been using Macs professionally since day one and I've never been stopped from doing something due to lack of available software.

Sure there are more pieces of software for Windows, but how many different calculators or FTP clients do you really need.
