I do not see why this is hard for some people to understand. Obviously if you build a fence you create smaller passages through which the traffic can flow...duh.

How much MONEY leaves the borders each year? Money that could subsidize health care, create education, maintain roads, build intercity mass-transit infrastructure, desalinization plants, etc, etc, etc... basically all the things to make the US economy potentially self sufficient.

It's not easy being green.

TAx money used to finance the military adventures overseas, and the excessive military the US government has today could simply be left where it belongs, in the pockets of Americans.

Please, no funds shifting from one government money pit to another.

I find that most Mexicans I meet in the US, are better then the ones I hear about in Mexico. I find that most of the Canadians - scratch that - all of the Canadians I have met in my area of the country have not been nice, either stupid, mean, nasty, whatever.

If it wheren't for the internet, I'd have a rather unpleasant idea of Canadians from the ones I've met. (Worked with one, cheated any time he could, product made per day went up when he was fired, and that was without any replacement).

Fortunately, I've met enough nice Canadians on the internet. I have also met some pretty sour ones as well. The US, same.

Here's why I'm pissed off.

From another forum, a construction worker's conversation about illegal immigration with a hispanic man (who is legal). The hispanic man said:

'We don't really want the laws to change. We have it made. We can sneak into this country, take every benefit possible, work and send the wages back home, then not contribute anything to the nation. No taxes, no SSAN, no military, etc"

lendaddy, sometimes we have to go to the states to get MRI's because of the length of time to wait for one up here.

My brother just got engaged to one of those Canadians..

Took my mom months to gather the courage to let her in the house...

I hide the silverware when he brings her over to my place.

(Kidding of course, but it's a great when she declares "WE'RE AMERICANS TOO!!!" - that's good for a laugh at the dinner table - really tho, she's a well to do Optometrist - who can't make money in CA..)

Caught on film!

Funny this thread got started up. I literally came across this scene just 2 days ago and had to take a documenting picture. I heard them saying all these weird things, like "eh" and "hoser." Try to take my job, will they...

Everyone complains about the site of "Mexicans" standing on street corners waiting for jobs. Here's an early morning shot of Canadians standing around on a sidewalk, waiting for...

...actually, a bus. They were in town for a conference, I believe.

Brian's absolutely right - to elaborate a bit, in some ways we have a fantastic health care system here, at least in theory, in that everyone has a right to health care, and, theoretically, top notch health care. The reality of it is that we as a country can't afford such a system, so those with money sometimes opt to pay for health care in the US to access it faster, and sometimes at a better quality level.

I'll respond to this post as it's a good example to speak to (and this subject in general). Not looking to knock Fray.....

For the record I know many Canadians..both through business and personally. For the most part they are well educated, polite and generally very good people.

Additionally, I know may hispanic people as well and for the most part they are very much like the Canadians.

My Blue eyed, blonde haired, Spanish mother emmigrated to NYC back in the mid 50s. She did not speak one word of English......not one. Growing up I recall her saying (in English) that if someone comes to this country it's their duty to learn the language. (I believe she stated this while we we discussing Italian, Russian and other immigrant rich neighborhoods in NY many years ago) BTW, we always spoke English at home and I was the only kid of Hispanic descent growing up in my school and neighborhood here in NJ.

I am very much for the building of an effective fence and dealing with illegals, of any sort, strongly......
BUT....I see that people all over (including here) lump all Mexicans (and Hispanics) into one law breaking, illegal supporting group. This is simply not the case.

What's my point? Well, I do see prejudice. Seems like Hispanic is the new dirty word. Will the prejudice go away? No. But I want to share with the intelligent people here how some might feel when generalizations and stereotype are used to prove a point.

I'll take a shot in the dark and say that memexicousuck is likely a member here that is of Mexican descent. Odds are with all all the people here that there is bound to be one or more who feel they unfairly being bashed.

Rick, I'd venture to say that alot of what you describe was brought on by hundreds of thousands of hispanics demonstrating on our streets carrying mexican flags. Over and over again. I didn't like seeing it. I didn't like hearing it. I resented it and all those who came here uninvited who have no right (AFAIK) to protest anything!
If someone invites me to their house for dinner I don't b!tch about how they prepared the meal. I can't imagine showing up at someone's house uninvited and b!tching about the meal.

Sure the protests worked as far as influencing the spineless politicians, but it also influenced many americans and not in a positive way.
As you sow, so shall you reap.

Sammy, the protests bother me as well. I feel the way you do.

I was pretty much giving a viewpoint that wasn't addressed here.
