We were not called soldier until after graduation from basic. During basic, it was either "boot" or "recruit". VINMAN... you're right. Marines definately have us beat on pride.

Yes, I find the notion of Marines murdering women and children repugnant. I find the individual and institutional actions regualry taken to cover up incidents like this to morally bankrupt and corrupt. I find your apologist stance, clothed in the blanket of the "corp" and the flag repugnent and sad. That you made this post at this time suggests a (fairly transparent) maniupulation of a hard wired American trait which causes your countrymen to snap to attention, place their hand on the heart and pronounce sonorously "thank you for your service". To do other is "traitorous". Its a very easy string to pull. I am clearly a terrorist, then.

David says terrorist, you say not. Sadly, the accustion is made because I disagree with your notion of honour. Perhaps you might care to look at the photos that have just been posted in the Halditha thread, and tell me again about the honour of the Corps? http://images17.fotki.com/v307/photos/4/41655/138949/ishaqic-vi.jpg And please dont to run "the insurgents did it" defence.

Yes snakbar we should all believe the folks over there taking the pictures. I am sure the terrorist are all telling the truth and our guys are lying. They would never decieve us.
Since they are so trustworthy why not go over there and let them defend your honor since we are not up to the task.

Interesting that today, your heros attacked two buses, let the Sunnis out, and then murdered the rest, including children. Where is your outrage? And please don't run "the Marines did it" defense. Allan Akbar indeed. http://www.theaustralian.news.com.au/story/0,20867,19366348-23109,00.html

This is the flaw in your argument, in your pluralist view. They are not my heroes. The invasion of Iraq has created this situation in that country and there can be no resiling from that.
But do you hold the US military to same standards as those that perpetrated such an atrocity? I personally think such as event (Haditha) was inevitable, no matter which country's military was repsonsible.

Amazing how you disgusting libs blow-off the atrocities of Saddam Hussein - proven facts - yet wallow in glee in any unproven media reports attacking our troops. I can see whose side you're on, and it's not mine.

I was given the attached letter about the Marine Corps and posted for my fellow Devildogs and Leatherneck family and friends to read.

I have five Marine buddies, two finished HS early so they could join up and finally live their dreams. Ever since we were young, like 8 or 9, all they ever wanted to be was Marines. After a long fight with the School Board, they were allowed to walk during graduation in their dress blues. The school didn't want to let them, can you believe that? Two stand up young men serving their country, knowing exactly what they want to do; they should have praised them as role models. What a sight to see at graduation, they both got long standing ovations from the entire (very large) crowd. You could see the pride radiating from them.
Two of my other friends, both very good friends, myself and the two Marines above grew up with them, joined this year after deciding that college wasn't for them. One is a Combat Engineer and the other is a Mechanic. Last I heard, both are wanting to get sent to Iraq, to fight for their country. My other friend is a year older than us, and joined after he graduated HS with 3 of his friends. They signed together, went to boot together, and went to Iraq together. My friend got shot, but lived, and two of his friends, whom he convinced to join, were killed in action. They were killed fighting for intangiable things in a country far from home that most of us couldn't find on a map, and don't know dick about. The country song "American Soldier" reminds me of them. One of the truest and best friends I've ever had just left on Saturday for Army Basic Training, and is completely stoked. God made him to be a Warrior, I have no doubt about it. He wants to go SpecOps, Rangers or Delta; I'm sure he'll succed at that also. He joined completely out of love for his country, he doesn't need the signing bonus, or the college money, or the money. He's a musical genius, and no academic dummy. I don't think I've ever seen him more excited and happy than when he left for Basic. Sorry for rambling so long, but the armed forces have a soft spot with me. I'm considering joining on the Delayed Entry Program, but who knows.... Sincere thanks to those Pelicans that have served, or are currently serving, in the United States Armed Forces.

Without wishing in any way to denigrate the Marines, their training or any other branch of the US military (who I genuinely believe are all brave - much more so than I).

Maybe China would invade. Maybe not - they are quite busy trying to take over the US economically
![]() That's a horribly mixed metaphor you have there. I tell you what, I'll clamber down off the moral stupidity horse if you spend 10% of your time considering that the US might be wrong occasionally. Oh - and the Aussies are more humane too.

Hmmm...that's a lot of slicing. What? No dicing? No puree?
Mul: yes, we are capitalists here. And being so this country hasn't done a goddamned thing out of the goodness of its own heart. We've instead offered assistance, aid, influence much in the way the mafia operates: we give with the bald realization that something may be asked for in return, no ifs ands or buts about it.
