July 4th and what it means to some!

An interesting article from the NY Post published some time back but certainly appropriate to read and reflect on as we approach this July 4th weekend.

While you might not agree with the reason for going to war you have to appreciate the commitment of those who serve.

If you haven't been there you might not understand but at least be thankful for their sacrifice.

With a few notable exeptions, posters here seem to be able to tell the difference between the war and those who fight in it. We have a very dedicated fighting force that does its best under very severe and dangerous circumstances.

It is unfortunate they have to be over there, but that is the way of the world...a dangerous, unsettled, nasty place full of countries ruled by self rightious, self serving egotists, convinced their world view is the right one, whether that view be based on religion or political ideology (sometimes the two blur into one).

Some day, long after we are all gone, if the world doesn't blow itself up, our collective emotional maturity may catch up with our intellectual capacity.

But I doubt it.

All of us who have served in some capacity have experienced the closeness of others who depend completely on their comrades; a bond that can last far beyond the "active duty".

My respect and admiration to those who serve today, have served in the past, and will in the future.

Semper Paratus!!
