Or, take a page out of the Newport sailor's book: the Dark and Stormy, consisting of 50% Gosling's Black Seal Rum and 50% Barritt's Bermuda Ginger Beer. Some other dark rum and some other Ginger Beer could probably be substituted, but don't try Bacardi and Vernor's lest the guardians of aesthetic taste smite thee.

Also, unless you have the poker skills of the deliquescent Doyle Brunson, I would advise keeping the stakes extremely low while you are under the influence. Don't want to read about you wagering the 911.

Good luck! Stay out of trouble.
Yes yes...teach me master I need to buy a guy like you drinks while he teaches me the ways.

Regarding Poker, that I need no instruction in....even drunk

YMMV
I like Jamesons and Bushmills (Blackbush), Irish is great value too compared too Scotch.

How does everyone drink their's?
I prefer straight up with ice water on the side.
Cask strenght I drink adding water a drop at a time. (not the stuff to quaff in a poker game!)

The expensive single malt stuff I drink straight up or I believe it is call "neat". I have been known to drink it out of a wine glass to enjoy the aroma. But I wouldn't do that at a poker party

Sacrilege I know but I often drink Jamason's out of a shot glass with a water back.

I must concede to Scottman. To enjoy a premium single malt, neat is the method. To drink Liv or Jameson at a poker table I would choose rocks.

I pronounce it "the good $hit" as in "anyone want a snort of the good $hit".

Believe it or not - I enjoy drinking Jameson neat with a pint of freshly tapped Bass. The problem with it is that after around 3 rounds, I'm utterly hammered...

Talisker

tall-iss-kur

Anything thinner (the 'glen's) and you might as well have vodka...
Anything thicker (the Islay's) and you're into the roofing tar and band-aids...

12 year old Balvinie will make a new man out of you. The last two years its in a port wood cask, and it really smooths it out.

You cannot get it here but another good one is Monkey Shoulder. Available only in the UK for now, its $40 a bottle over there and just as smooth and nice as the $75 Balvinie.

Mix with a good cigar and life is good. In fact I believe its time for a sip right now!

I'm with you, dtw, except I substitute Harp lager for the Bass. I'll give the Bass a try the next time I'm primed for liver damage. I had too much fun when I was young so my drinking bouts are well spaced out. Can't handle the aftermath anymore.

I have a nice bottle of Highland Park 12 year I am working on. Pretty smokey flavor, really mellow. It's the "most Northern of all Scottish distilleries"
