We have a Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever, that is a pure-bred but has great health as the breed is far from being over-bred. He is a good size at 45lbs. We also have a Belgium Sheepdog that we got from the pound.
Both are great family dogs, but both are fairly high energy. The Belgium is non-stop motion from morning to night. The retriever is a swimming fool. Pools, lakes, rivers whatever... He'll find something for you to throw, drop it at your feet and just beg for you to pitch it into the water. They are both nine yrs old and I thought they would slow down, but they are as active as ever.

we have 2 border collies. Both from border collie rescue league. The only other breed I would consider is a german shepherd.
Having said that, a BC requires time/attention/training more on the level of a small child than a dog. Not for everyone.

No bad breeds..just a bunch of idiot owners. Any dog can cause issues. Most dog bites= Cocker Spaniels, yes the Pit,Rott's and their like have a reputation, so do Porsche cars. It's how you raise them and what you put into it. Me, every morning at 5 am the Rotts, parking lot something breed, and my new Lab puppy go for a serious walk, they need exercise and direction ! Watch the dog whisper guy.
meant to add..do the same walk at night..yes that includes weekends, it's good for me also. Rika Last edited by Rikao4; 08-02-2006 at 11:03 AM.. |
