Yeah -- that's it. OK, it's not a purr, but definitely a very angry "meow".

If nature intended that sound to send chills up our spines, that does the trick! I don't want to hear that when I'm a million miles from nowhere all by myself fly fishing.

I'd be very careful if I were you in the SF Bay area. There are new lions taking up residence in the hills yearly these days.

I was camping around the west and asked a ranger if he could give me a general size of the cat that was in my camp based on the size of his paw print. He reckoned 100-125#. He said their territory is around 10-15 sq mi.

As we were bs'ing he told me that from Sac Cal north to the border is "infested with cougars".

A few weeks later I'm hanging at a opal mine camp in a Fed wildlife area and one guy tells the story about him riding his mt cycle in N Calif and breaking down which was hours walk back. He was tracked by a cougar for hours during the day. You can't make up the story or fear he talked about. btw, wild story.

Where was that cat killed? It's HUGE!

I work at a hospital on a hill in San Ramon, California. (East Bay) Ten years ago a mountain lion was spotted on the hill behind the hospital. Most of the hospital staff didn't believe it. I grew up here and used to see lion scat on Mount Diablo a few miles away so I thought it a possibility, though unlikely.

One summer weekend a doctors office manager was finishing up some paperwork and saw the big cat laying down in the parking lot next to her car. Animal control never captured the cat, but after that sighting it was seen in Danville, Blackhawn and it's assumed it made it's way back to Diablo. Yes, there are lions in the East Bay. Beautiful animals.

Answered my own question. That cat was killed 6 MILES OUTSIDE BELLEVUE, WASHINGTON! That's less than an hour from downtown Seattle.

I can't explain wny Robert DeNiro is holding the cats paw, though.

That's my stompin' grounds. I grew up in Bellevue and now live about half an hour north. Every now and then one of these fellers shows up in suburbia around here, or if not a big cat, a black bear. They are more common than people realize. I have to hand it to this guy, though, that cat is about the size of the average bear I see around here.

No joke Guys, Cougars ARE becoming a real problem in the Pacific Northwest. I remember when Ron was here, camping at the trout creek campground, up Hwy. 20 a few miles, into the lower elevations of the Cascades. He came here with big eyes, had seen tracks in the river sand, asked me what cougar paw prints looked like. I pointed to some wet prints our kitty had left under the porch roof and said: "Just like that only a lot bigger". RoninLB has seen some scary things as a NY fireman...but as he looked at our cat's paw prints, his eyes got even bigger. A Cougar had indeed walked within a few feet of his tent. The big cat must have figured that Ron didn't smell good.

See?? PROOF that moose attacks are on the rise.

The pro-moose lobby is spreading anti-mountain lion propaganda to distract you from the real moose issue.
