This does not seem to be marketed as a concour car so what is a realistic price for a 73 S Targa?

I think straight targas like this one are relatively rare. Attrition got most of them so I would think these cars should have a pretty good premium to collectors.

I just don't like ads that shout - hence capital letters.

he may be well known in early car circles, but he's taking a nice car and making it much more questionable.
Fact- Shorter gearing means it runs into redline issues sooner...making top speed LOWER. Fact- Stock, 165 wasn't possible, and thats not rev related, it's aero limited. Shorter gearing might help it get up there faster, but it's also over sooner. Fact- Any stock 2.4 shouldn't rev to 8.5K without floating valves. IMHO. IF he's reved it and raced turbos, carreras, etc, and run it to that kind of revs, I frankly don't want it! I am amazed anyone else does, frankly. The entire ad reeks of BS...where does the real car start?

There are some other odd things. The horn vents are wrong. They are shown as chrome. In 1973 they were black. I guess he went chrome when he added the lights.
Also, I'm not sure why his oil pressure gauge is stuck at max. With the engine off, it should be down, not up. He mentions that it has the correct '73 radiator type oil cooler up front. In '73 the cooler was the trombone cooler - unless there was a special option that I am not aware of. I am also not aware that there were space saving spares for '73 (but I have no lists and it's not what I would have known). |

Did the seller mention that when he purchased this amazing car he was riddled with cancer and after driving it in just one PCA event (at devine speeds) his cancer was suddenly gone?
Personally I hope he sells it for every penny he's asking. That would make mine worth fortune! :-)

A few facts:
--I know the owner of the car for 20+ years. --I have driven and worked on the car. --The car is and does what he claims. I've seen 8K... --165 indicated? Is possible. Car's had multiple trannys. --Space savers are a must when using the plastic tank. --It's a little more than a 2.4 ... how much more? Nobody knows. We've never been inside. --He is a dork, but he's no liar. --That car, even at 50K+ won't meet the reserve. --All of you are retarded ... except Curt. He knows... Bull****...top end, approx 145MPH in a stock 2.4 S...Ask me how I know...
(edit) Friend Roger's '73 RS lightweight, with hillclimb gears? Top end 125...but boy oh boy did it get there quickly...it could whup a 930 in a 0-100 run. Again, ask me how I know..

I finally clicked on the ad...yes, I've read this seller's posts in the past. I'll certainly agree with Mr914-6 here: "--He is a dork,"
As far as no liar? Well, seeing is believing. If this is a stock 2.4 S, the seller is full of it. If it's not a stock 911S, then it's not original, is it? A huge amount of BS quotient here...

Well, my 73 DID come with an RS tank and a spce saver....but it was imported from Germany in 74.
I still think I don't want a car that has stock internals and has had the snot revved out of it. 8500?? tch tch tch. And if the internals aren't stock, and he's not telling, then he's misleading. Agian, I'll pass from that kind of a seller.

Just because 165 shows on the speedo does not mean you are going 165...

You know what they say, "If it looks too good to be true, it probably is."
If the car has some magic engine (tuned or increased capacity), why not tell us what has been done to justify the performance figures. Other than bilsteins, I don't remember anything being done to the suspension, not the car I would want to drive at 165MPH. Guess I'm just jealous because I can't afford it and of course, I'm Nigerian. |

Ok,
For those of you that know me or my ex car from past rides to Hersey or wherever, know my 73s was good for more than 143. It was lightly built once we went to do a reseal and once in we changed it to 2.2 ltr high compression pistons with a few other bumps. That said, at 140 there was still more to go... not sure how much more, but these cars were not aerodynamically capable of much higher speeds due to horsepower limitations as well as drag and other coeficients. As much as I would have liked to have revved past the 7300 rpm redline, I was told that 7500 was safe, due to changes in the valve train, and I never went above 7300. It was very quick, but not turbo quick and the handling was fantastic due to updates in the suspension. That said, this guy is full of it. Without major mods, and even that is saying a lot, this car is not capable of what he is saying. The fact that this POS can reach the kind of money is has is making me depressed beyond words that I sold my car (the reason was a good one). Run Forrest run! Don't spend much time on ebay but are guys like this listing cars w/ high reserve, car doesn't sell and then he uses some trumped up explanation and sells it thru a dealer? Either that or he is fishing for someone with that "got to have at any cost" mentality.
And it a repsray as well |
