I would truly like to know the answer, like I said, I haven't been following it (not that interesting to me).

But on one of the talking heads show today that had a panel ranging from left to right on the political spectrum, they ALL seemed to agree that there was no underlying crime committed, or even alleged by Plame.

That took me by surprise. If there is no underlying allegation of a crime on the table anymore, what is this all about?

Ironically, it was under Bush 1 that knowingly outing an undercover operative became a treasonous crime. It's called the Intelligence Identities Protection Act of 1982.

The neo conned have tried every tactic to explain away the illegal nature of her outing. And it mostly comes down to that 'knowingly' part -- which AFAIK is the key reason Fitzpatrick didn't play the treason card. There is also the question of whether Plame was undercover overseas in the prior 5 years before her 'outing' which is a condition of this specific law.
