jyl 03-30-2007 10:55 PM

for $2400, I'll supply the fire.

U mean those SUCKERS have spent $2400 on a Coffee Machine? Now thats a RIP....

I will admit I spent $1475.00 for my Salvatore...its HANDBUILT, made in America using ALL COMMERCIAL GRADE COMPONENTS. There is only one 3/4 inch piece of plastic tubing in the whole machine, and that goes from the water resvoir to the pump..and thats so if you lose prime you can reprime the pump. The rest is copper tubing. My machine even has my name inside, as it is built to order. The thing is built like a Rolls Royce, built to last.

I'm happy with my $599 investment.

Although I grind my own specialty beans at home and do enjoy a good cappuccino on occasion, I found this amusing:

Sacrilege! To a coffee guy, that's like saying, "not Porsche, Ferrari, BMW, jjust a regular freakin' CAR!"

Shaun, you'll get much better results with your press if you use a burr-style grinder instead of that blade grinder. More consistent grind = more consistent flavor.

I ended up with a Francis X5 from Illy, so far very good pulls from it, especially from their pucks. Not perfect but worth it for the convenience. I wish the resevoir were a bit bigger but that's just because I'm lazy..

If you google Jura E8, you'll find a lot of places selling it for the same price.

Thank you VERY much, RB...I have found my wife's next birthday present:)

red-beard 04-01-2007 07:31 AM

My ex-wife gave me strict instructions on presents. Anything with a cord attached, was unacceptable.

cstreit 04-01-2007 07:40 AM

The cord on many of these is detachable red-beard, you're still good.

Bodum Antigua or the Starbucks Barista grinder are both about $80 and work well. I've see the Antigua for ~$50 at some discount online stores though. You might be able to find a burr grinder for cheaper and it will work well. It's just a matter of how long it will work. YMMV.

wholelattelove has a pretty good selection. You can find Burr grinders for $40-60 (Capresso, Krupps). The more expensive ones are designed for expresso machines and will hold the porta-filter while it fills.

That is why we're still married...we mix practical with romantic and don't make a show of bd's.:)

Thank god.
