do you permit fellow to drive your 911

Haaaaaaahhh...I have problem with that...a fellow collegue want to try my 911...want to dive it a little...I am reluctant to that...do you borrow your baby sometimes...? The only ones who try mine was my wife and my father...and I was a little bit nervous....!

Funny I was talking with my dad about this the other day.

He's generous with his 86 cab. He lets anyone drive it, as long as he's the passenger. However, some people just don't respect machinery, and until they are behind the wheel it's hard to tell if they will ham-fist it.

Then again, I shouldn't complain... he lets ME drive it

I let others drive it as long as I'm in the car and the list of invitees is pretty restrictive. Nobody has ever let me drive their Porsche, perhaps I've got a bad reputation?

I've let others drive a 911 I was responsible for, and I've let others drive my 356. Heck, my older brother and I both learned how to drive in the 356.

As long as it is understood that they are completely responsible, and you trust them on that, then why not?

Can you really make someone completely responsible for something you trusted them with? I never, ever loan something I'm not prepared to lose.

Learned my lesson well sometime in the late 90s. Just had my '80 Weissach restored, bare metal-engine out. I was renovating the carriage house that I lived in at the time and asked a work colleague/ "friend" for his technical opinion on some renovation work I was doing. I drove down. He asked if he could drive back. At that time he was an active motorcycle racer and spoke the lingo well. Well we took the back way back to work. He's driving very normal, nothing even remotely shaky until... middle of a tight corner he puts his foot down. Engine was a little tweaked, the 46mm webers kicked in, competition clutch grabbed and in slo-mo we went sideways and sideways the other way and then into a stone retaining wall hard. Kaboom. Having done a little DE teaching I knew he was not going to save it. It was that obvious, he didn't have a clue. Many thousands of dollars later (8 or 9?) it was fixed but never the same. And to top it off, because I was seriously bummed out I passed going to a Stones concert that evening with a rather beautiful lady. Oy! Now I nicely change the subject when someone hints they want to drive either my '70 914-6 or '77 911S.

I let pretty much anyone drive my car that wants to. Heck, I even let Tyson Schmidt drive it on the track. That guy is a MANIAC!

As for driving my car, sure - anyone who wants to can provided I get to ride along shotgun. I always tell them before they start that if they get into an accident or if they burn out my clutch they have to pay. Nobody ever has a probem with that.

In fact, I like it when fellow pelicans drive it. They are a wonderful source of information on what to listen for and how it handles.

No one has been interested so far. The only thing I would worry about would be the old 915.

My dad taught me to drive and was a gear head, so I let him drive once. I used to let my wife take the car, but I was always nervous until it came home.

I let a buddy and my son drive it with me in the car right before I sold it, but the general rule was that no one but the wife got to drive it.

I used to, but I don't now. The reason is because it takes so much of their focus just to operate the controls that they just don't get the benefit of the experience. Driving a 911 is one of the best motoring experiences you can have, but not so much during the first ten minutes or even a half-hour. It takes a while to get comfortable and begin to understand and enjoy the experience.

Tyson Schmidt can make a 911 dance, and make you turn green at the same time. I would be perfectly comfortable letting him drive my car, especially on a track, but I'm just not sure I have the cajones to ride along.

I had to beg him to let me out after two laps at Thunderhill. I'm pretty sure I was going to puke or get killed if I stayed in the car much longer.

No. I'm saying that Tysons skills behind the wheel are incomprehensible for me.
