I do not mind heat at all, I actually prefer it to cold, so heat, no matter how hot is a non issue for me.

Humidity

See above, another non issue for me.

Draught

Temporary, we call this time of year, the dry season. It happens every year, some worse than others but it happens like clock work, its called weather patterns. 6 Months from now they will be dumping water out of Lake Okeechobee screaming it overflowing. I never get concerned over it. The bonus? P-Car rarely gets dirty from being rained on.

Thunder storms

Your kidding right? Please, everyone gets thunderstorms. Again, another non-issue.

Tornados

I can honestly say, in the 22 years I have lived in Florida, I have never even been remotely near a tornado.

Hurricanes

3 Hurricanes in 23 years, the first and second were 15 days apart, by the time we got our 3rd a year later I had learned so much about how to cope with them it is a no brainer. When you have not had any in 20 years you tend not to know how to deal with them. The folks in Japan have it all figured out. They go home for the storm and back to work the next day. We are heading in the same direction here. My home and office both are ready now and I can go back to work the next day like nothing happened.

Fires

You must be confusing us with California the kings of out of control brush fires.

Crime rate

Non where I live, 23 years and never been robbed once. The little town I live in is really nice and there is rarely a crime here. A homicide in this area is a huge shocker as it just does not happen here but once in a blue moon.

Traffic cops

Maybe 1 town north of me, but the worst in the nation in my opinion is Georgia. Right here where I live I never see speed traps, ever. Cops patrol around, I mean drive their cars and make themselves visible here, might be why there is no crime, because our cops do not hide in bushes looking for speeders, they actually patrol the area.

Judges

I think Judge Ito is the king in this category. You want to tell me the Anna Nichole and Terry Schivo cases did not turn out the correct way? In the end both worked out the way they should have in my opinion.

Spanglish

Its more spanish speaking in Miami, the rest of the state seems to refure to give in to the spanish only crap happening in Miami. Hows L.A. and San Diego doing?

Swamps
Way out west of town and actually really neat places to see by airboat, kind of like seeing a rain forest, pristine land untouched by man full of natural life. You should see one some time.

Mosquitos

I live close to the ocean and they are barely an issue here. During the daytime they are non-existant at night, sometimes but not bad at all honestly. I cannot remember the last time I even had to spray some Off on. I also cannot remember the last time I even got a mosquito bite.

Love bugs

You got me there, a real PITA once a year for a month or so. We had them near my house for the first time in 10 years, they are mostly out in the middle fo the state though, so if you do not cross the state they really are not a huge deal. I crossed 2 weeks prior and not one bug, then I corss again and you see what I got.

Flat, straight roads

Agreed!! But, we have Homestead Miami Raceway, Daytona Raceway, Moroso Raceway, the legendary Sebring Racetrack, and Reobling is not far away either. I like all the killer road courses we have here and the fact that we run them 12 months a year.

I'm sure I left something out.

You did, your geriatric parents and grandparents that come down every winter and are more annyoing than love bugs. They cannot drive and you need to take their license and cars away from them. They pull out of parking lots onto roads without looking, drive through red lights, seemingly unaware they are in theur car driving it. Then they proced to drive 20 under the speed limit clogging up all the road. They also seem to shop at the local super market from the time it opens to the time it closes. I look forward to summer here when they leave and my little town gets quiet again.

Every place in this nation has its problems. Its what you choose to live with because of what you like about that area that makes it unique.

I like the weather here, I like hot, I hate cold, I prefer to be able to drive my P-car 12 months a year and do an Autocross or DE in January or July because we are always having good weather.

I'll take all the problems you list because Its a great place to raise a family here and I like the consistant weather.

Why would anybody live in FL? I have one more class at UCF and I am outty.
Sorry your experiance here has been so bad. Some people are just not cut out for the tropics. Others love it. You obviously are not a tropics person.

Oh, and Orlando is not really Florida. Its a tourist trap.

Jim I am with you 100%. I've lived in 22 different places in my life from England to Indiana, Ohio, New Mexico, Texas and California. Florida is where I choose to call home.

The roads were great in California - when you could find an open stretch.... 9 times out of 10 you got stuck behind some doodlehead in a big SUV on some winding road.

Sorry guys, I was sorta venting after my bitter experience with the courts. I was/am very anti-Orlando. And yes, Orlando is not FL.

My point about the thunderstorms isn’t that they happen, but that they happen every day at rush hour during the summer. Combine this with the point about the blue hairs, and it makes for a VERY long drive home.

I just happened to move here right when all the hurricanes hit. I am part of a disaster relief team that spent months on the road helping to revive the infrastructure throughout Florida and in Biloxi. For those of you who have just seen pictures, you have no idea. Words and pictures can not describe the smell and the total devastation. I have an entirely new respect for mother nature.

Jim pretty much trumped all my points with his pictures. I can see why many like it here. It’s just not for me. Although Orlando has some of the hottest hotties I have ever seen.

Was my spelling better?

If I found a good job in my field (IT) in St Augustine, FL, I'd be out of here (SE MI). Of course, I wouldn't be able to sell my house here, either...

It's OK BK - we still love you. I personally am not a big fan of Orlando. I had two offices over there for awhile - seemed like someone was either trying to steal from us on a daily basis - or selling drugs.

I will tell you that most places I have lived had plusses and minuses. really depends on what you are looking for.

We had some really good Lake Erie Walleye last weekend, but it's really not the same thing. I'd much rather be in St Augustine!

Man, just when I was warming up to the whole Florida thing. Between Gators and sharks, is there any body of water that is free of man-eaters?

I think the number is 8 or 9 times more likely to be bitten by a gator than a shark. and you are like 6 times more likely to win the florida lottery.

more dangerous driving to florida...

How about the little wading pool in the middle of the Delano? Unless you count all the little hotties dancing in there with their micro-minis.

You forgot to mention people that come to study here since there are no good schools in their home state (oops ).

You also forgot (amongst many other things...):

Daytona
Sebring
Moroso
Homestead

edit: I forgot to mention that this is my 2000th post and, that you can easily remove love bugs by wiping the paint with a damp dryer sheet.

I can write that in spanglish if you prefer
