Love Bugs!!

The worst I have seen in 10 years, it must be because of Global Warming.

I have to drive across Florida to Ft. Myers and back tomarrow, stay tuned for the carnage pictures.

The truck is white but will be a 2 tone black and wite by the time I get back.

Thanks U of F!!!

Jim,
I was in Florida last week working. I was at a facility in Miami as the commercial trucks began rolling in. They were white vehicles and the front of them looked like someone had pasted on a thick coat of black fur. I asked what the heck is THAT?

Love Bugs.... Yuck. They wash them off ievery day - nasty things will eat the paint with their splatter. There are so many of them that they clog radiators and the refrigration system on the commercial vehicles....

Actually the U of F story is urban legend, but they are really thick this year. They help us celebrate the beginning and ending of summer.

i use ammoniia household cleaner in my washer to keep the windshield clean. before trying this, I'd have to pull over many times to scrape the windshield so I could see the highway on a couple hour ride

Don't let them dry or you'll never get them off.

These are the only bugs I like. When I saw Love Bug, first thing that came to my mind was Herbie.

you think that's bad...I went out of the country for a week and made the mistake of leaving the GTI parked underneath a Jacaranda tree. Sap covered the whole freaking car, so thick that the windows wouldn't move down. Fun...

When I ran across in my Toyota I was surprised there were barely any Love Bugs flying.

Then I ran to Tampa this weekend in the Audi.
It took me 2 hours to get all this off the poor car. It got so bad driving I had to stop at one point to clear the windshield because I could no longer see out it. If you leave these suckers on the car too long they eat through the clear coat too. What a mess.

Jim,
That's why I had a bra on my 911 when I drove through FL in March, but I didn't encounter any bugs. When I lived in FL ('80-'82) I used a black screen that was mounted on the front of my '68 Mustang that "caught" the bugs a few inches in front of the grill so the car didn't overheat. I wonder if they still sell those screens? I use RainX on my windshields and P21S wax on my cars, as well as a bra to prevent bug splats and rock chips and it really seems to work.

pam cooking spray over a fresh coat of wax eases removal. Especially if you are planning a jaunt. A little simple green spray and a car wash makes it easy to remove (still get them green!)

I'll have to agree that Love bug season is the worst I have seen it in my 19 years in Florida.

These have to be the stupidest creatures ever to roam the earth - dumber than plants. Obviously they were only put here to be food.

When I lived in FL years ago for school, I remember getting covered with these stupid bugs bicycling to class - that's how little it takes to splatter/kill them. It was unintentional and after a 5 minute bike ride (slowly) to class I had to find a washroom and clean the bug guts off my face, shirt and pants before going to class. It's surreal.

I vividly remember the first time a Palmetto bug flew into my car ('68 Mustang convertible) and landed on my shoulder, then crawled up my neck! I almost crashed the car and anybody watching would have thought I was having a seizure!

I drove from Jax to Daytona on Saturday and my SUV was covered - nasty!!! You could see them coming. Looked like I was back up north driving in snow, except they were black - lol. Spend 2 hours washing them off today. They are not that bad in Jax

I admit it, spelling isn't my thing. Auto-correct in word doesn't help me learn either. I guess you're just smarter and better than me. Unfortunately spelling isn't required for a masters in engineering. Neither is grammer. If I really cared I would have spell checked. Obviously I don't.

Right back at ya.

BTW, that was actually funny. If it was directed at somebody else it would have been funnier though.
