And, oh, btw, have any of you folks ever had anyone ask, "that's your Mom? I thought it was your house keeper..."

I didn't think so.

Big dumb white guy, who I dropped like a bad habit. My Mom's folks are from the north of Spain...I have since learned to ignore the dumb.

iMO, "American, with Irish heritage" is far less offensive than "IRISH American"

The difference is in whether a transplant happens to be living in America, vs someone who is an American first. "Prefaced American" is not at all American. This country is said to be a melting pot. ..not "tribes"

I'm with you on that, I too have Irish heritage as well as German, ane 1/4 Cherokee on my Grandfathers side
No wonder my bar tabs are so bloody high??

This thread wasn't started as a "race baiting one, only a f*cking racist would see it that way, and I have no clue why the "chinaman comment came about (I love Asian ladies, I think they are some of the hottest women on the planet )

This was only to point out that in the United States, we speak English, just as if we were in Germany, we would be speaking German.

Vash, if you are from china then I say welcome to my country.

If you were born here, then i say you are an american and need to stop being so thin skilled.
If you are so proud of your chinese heritage as to get offended, why are you here?
Be proud of being an american. Period.
I see people all the time with stickers on their cars that say how proud they are of where they came. My gut feeling is, if they liked it so much why didn't they stay there? Because this place is better.
Being proud of another country while living here is an insult to those who are natives. We dson't b1tch about it because we aren't that thin skinned.
People who live in the US (leagally) should consider themselves to be American and they should be proud of it.
Forget about where your ancestors lived. If it was so great they would have stayed there!

My ancestors came from England and Ireland. I am not English, I am not Irish, I am AMERICAN!
I don't give a ratsass if someone insults england or ireland, but if you insult the good old US of A you better be ready to back it up.
That's how it should be.
If you want to live in the greatest country in the world, then you should be proud to say you are american. Not Black, not hispanic, not asian, etc. American!

well, as long as you didn't use any regional /heritage with that crass insult, I guess it's okay.

Seriously, this whole "I'm offended" gig is old.

Well, liberal think that those of us born & raised in the south forget about our heritage. No one is telling anyone to forget where they came from (other than liberals, wanting Americans to quit being American) but if you choose to move to the USA, learn the language, one thing, it is a requirement to be a legal citizen!! Loyalty, he!! yes, people take an oath to it!!
