Cool trick. I also rebuild "proprietary" battery packs by doing the reverse. Sometime a solder tab battery is used but it's much cheaper.

I also used to charge alkalines multiple times before they totally died.

OK that will solve AA nicely. Thanks for the link.

Now what about AAA's . . .

Hahaha! Hilarious!

Just goes to show how much you're getting ripped off usually.

I'm pickin' me up a few of those later.

Nice! I didn't know about that... maybe next time I need some AAs, I'll grab a lantern battery instead of going to Ikea for their cheap batteries.

That's awesome! Definitely going to give it a try. I wonder if they are good grade batteries, though, equal to something like DuraCells??

I cheat. I have used rechargable Li-on AA's for years and will continue to do so.

Even recharge some of them using a solar panel, so I am a cheap ba$tard.

Couple more:

AAAA batteries in a 9 volt cell:
http://www.metacafe.com/watch/360955/9_volt_battery_hack_youll_be_surprised/

8 watch/button batteries from a 12v battery:
http://lifehacker.com/software/how-to/get-eight-watch-batteries-from-a-12volt-battery-291068.php

I don't think you are guaranteed to get many small batteries from the larger batteries, but apparently many manufacturers use the above methods, FWIW.

Best,

Kurt
