Thanks guys, you have been a real big help.
Scooter,

Keep in mind that nobody has the power to make anybody feel anything. We do it to ourselves. My ex-wife/super-beahtch Phd. sociologist clued me in to this hard to accept (and hard to put to use) fact. I've put it to use on numerous occasions - it wasn't easy, but it has always shortened the periods of frustration, anger, humiliation or whatever I felt as the result of another's ridicule, chastisement or whatever.

You come across as a sincere person who doesn't hesitate to ask questions or voice your opinions (several of which I've differed with and challenged, if you'll recall ). I have respect for people who do that and don't think anyone should make themselves feel bad because someone ridicules, makes fun of or simply disagrees with what they think and say.

I hope you keep posting and consider the sources of the responses you get - some will be reinforcing and helpful; others will be flat fcuking lame (laugh them ones off ).

Cheers,

David

ps - stay away from pink driving gloves - don't fit with your image .

Most of us were trying to help - not trying to make you look stupid. We're helping you to avoid looking stupid. Hell I've done a ton of stupid stuff in my life and just wish I had access to a non-partisan crowd like this to advise me before taking the infamous leap. You may think the gloves feel and look good regardless of what was posted here. Fine, buy them and wear them. We're here to tell you that most folks on the road will think you're, well...it's already been said...

We're trying to help, but you just don't realize it...

ps: I don't know about your experiences, but get a group of long time "male friends" together, and you'd better have thicker skin than this. What the heck did you expect from this group

Go over here and post your question. You think Pelican is tough? This crowd would shred you over 10-20 pages.

Back to Scooter's original pic, I bet that if Porsche Design reintroduced these gloves today they'd be a big seller - if I lived in a colder climate (I drive with the window down and the heat on on even the coldest days) I'd probably consider paying the sure to be ridiculous asking price just to be cool with the Porsche logo (looks like it'd be plainly visible with the hands at 10 & 2 ).

I do have thick skin. I am just tired of everything on Pelican being "a tough crowd." I don't care if other sites would "shred" me or not. I am just sad to see Pelican go down hill the way it has. So many people here think they are funny, but rather, they are just plain mean spirited. I can take it like the rest of you, but it just gets old after a while. Thank you to those who have given constructive input. I don't see a reason to continue this thread. Have a good day all!

Have you ever tried golf gloves as driving gloves? They are comfortable and give excellent grip. I don't wear gloves for golf or driving but just an idea.

I have chosen to stay clear of this subject since it was posted, sorry people are playing pig pile. This is the kind of question that can end up being pretty amusing at times depending on where you stand.

There's a lot of macho BS on the BB but most likely the same everywhere you go. These are the same guys that wear gloves for biking and riding their motorcycle's covered with enough cowhide to claim a couple of animals. Hell, even on-ramp will be wearing leathers and he's a vegan, can't figure that one out for the life of me.

I been thinking of putting curb feelers on my 911 but I won't go there right now. Don't pay attention to the *******s in the world, there are too many of them and life is too short.

Scooter, this was a brilliant thread (don’t be upset). I’m so glad there is a forum such as this one. My Dad had those gloves back in 1984, he wore them because the shift knob in the Alfa began to bother his palm. I played La Crosse in high school and just like hockey, once you get used to wearing gloves, picking up the stick doesn’t feel the same without them. Gloves like that for driving may have served a purpose when you actually need to “drive” the car like an old Triumph TR4 or a diesel powered John Deere. Ultimately they were a fashion statement in the 80’s as pretty much everyone has pointed out. You might as well get an old school ESCORT and the awesome folding Porsche style aviator sunglasses to go with them. Bottom line though: “.. to each is own…” do what you want. You asked for it when you started the thread. Hell, ever drive your 911 in just your underwear? Now that them there is fuuuun!!! Yeeha!

Well said!

I don't wear driving gloves but when I rented a convertible to drive through the Utah state parks in winter I wore ski gloves, they are designed for good grip and the gore tex lets you hands breathe.

and I'm not wearing any panties!
