You may want to run a add in the newspaper asking for witnesses in case you can get this to court.

Exactly what I was thinking. Rent a U-haul pick-up (take out the "enhanced insurance" policy), conceal the license plate, and wait. When he passes, fall in behind. When the time is right, give him a taste of his own medicine.

You have his license plate #. With that, you can get his mailing address, non? You could always send him a bill for the repairs and claim that you have multiple witnesses willing to come to your side of the story. Sure, this is dishonest, but the guy deserves to pay your damages, right?

Same here. Doesn't matter what the circumstances, rear-ending someone results in a ticket for following too closely. Just like we all learned in driver's ed, you're always supposed to leave adequate stopping distance.

AFAIK, if you rear-end someone in CA, you're basically ticketed for following too closely.

Well, as much as I hate "urban assault vehicles", I would like to point out that the "big monster truck" stereotype is just as bad as the "Porsche teeny-weiner" stereotype which is just as bad as the "cell-phone talkin latte-drinkin makeup applyin soccer mommy SUV" stereotype. *********s drive all kinds of cars.

You know, of the 4 big instances that I remember where someone road raged in my direction, they were all in trucks and I was in a small car every time.

It makes me think twice about getting and carrying a gun (hey, it's Texas), but I think brandishing to back someone off, even just putting it on the dash, is illegal here, also, seems like there's a good chance that the guy in the other vehicle could also have a gun, and if they are already being life threatening with their vehicle, there's no reason to assume that they'd be any different with a gun.

I've been pulled over by cops lots over the years. I'm betting that it's 15 or 20 times at least in the last 20 years. I don't think I've ever had a single rude, or obnoxious cop. I've never had a cop that seemed out of line or over the top.

I've known lots of people that had hard times from cops, but I've always wondered, is it the cop, or is it something in their behavior?

A couple of comments.. I know a guy here on the board ( and I'm sorry I can't think of his name) that is a great guy, a state trooper in MD.. He may lend you some good advise.. Sorry I can't remember his name, but I sold him some turbo twists a year or so ago.
Also, I'd get his name, address , etc and take him to small claims court. . worth a try..

If they get out of their vehicle and are headed in my direction, I'm already clearing leather. Florida is a "stand your ground" state. We can shoot when threatened, even if the perp is un-armed. No duty to retreat. No civil penalties either for a "clean" shoot.

Here is Wisconsin it's the same, if you read end someone (no matter what the reason) you get a ticket - following too close, failure to stop, inattentive driving.... I would get all the stuff you have and go to court and try to make the cop come in as a witness so he can explain WHY he didn't ticket the obviously tailgating driver (even if you did slam on the brakes [i believe you didn't] he should stop b4 hitting you or he was too close)

Good news. Talked to my Nationwide investigator last night. He said they are confident that Gieco will cover all costs. Nationwide agrees that I was hit from the rear and the other driver was at fault and they will fight. My rep said that it also helps that Mr. Pickup Truck driver refuses to give a statement and has been extremely rude. Can't wait to get the accident report and read his side of the story, in Maryland, to get a copy of you have to call the barracks 5 days after the accident and leave a message requesting a copy ($4). I left a message yesterday. Really can't wait to have my 951 looking nice again, I hate driving a damaged car around. Attached is a picture I snapped the Sunday before the accident.

Two words... Diminished Value. If the other guy's insurance will cover the damages, ask for it.

I think all of the 944 already have "diminished value" built right in.

I have been rear ended twice, once destroying my first 944 and once in a VW. In both cases no charges were laid but when I spoke to insurance they basically told me that you could skid on ice for miles with no hopes of stopping but it would still be 100% your fault if you rear end someone. The police may take into account conditions but Insurance doest seem to.

I am happy to see a few drivers offer used parts but I would simply find the best euro body shop you can find and let them put in new parts.
