You are very wise.

Nature is pretty cruel sometimes and we just have to find the best way to manage. Good luck to you and to all the other folks that are in danger from these wildfires. Hopefully all will turn out well.

I watched the Santiago fire yesterday from my back yard but it's headed south away from my house. Good for me, bad for the folks in Irvine. It grew from 20 acres to 3800 acres in an hour and was heading south at an estimated 6 mph at one time last night.

I lost some shingles and the yard is a mess from the very high winds but I've got no room to complain.

Just saw on the National News pic's of the Malibu Mansion going up in flames......Terrible to see that landmark go. Rumor is, it was sold for 17 M and the deal was set to close on Wednesday.....

Hope all our Pelicans in the area stay safe!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm fine at this point. The fire is on the northeast side of town from me by several miles. But the fire burned 15 miles in a few hours yesterday. Winds are coming from that direction however. Funny thing, the pool plasterers started redoing my pool this morning. That'd be my luck, to have a newly refurbished pool and no house.

David, good luck to you and the others dealing with this. Better to get out and not create additional problems for the firefighters.

So long as U don't have wood shingles for a roof your pretty safe. I have been through Earthquakes, Fires and Floods in So CA. Having lived in the Foothills for 48 years.

I went through one fire that came with 3 blocks of the house, later that summer it was lucky we had the smaller fire of only 1000 acres cause all of the San Gaberials went up and that winter I faced a wall of water one mornining after having 29 inchs of rain in one month on burned ground. That and having been through countless other fires and rollers in S CA.

So there really is nothing to panic or get upset about. Put some water on the roof and wet down the plants.

It generally takes about 40 years of Brush growth between big burns in the same area.

Coming down the 5 around Templin Hwy/Castaic this A.M., Santa Clarita looked like armageddon with the blood red smokey sky above. Good luck everyone, BTDT a few times and after loading up Family, photos, pets, guns and guitars, everything else is just "stuff". Was Burnt out in '93, and it's all replaceable.

That used to be the common wisdom. Several tile roofed houses have burned in Malibu (which does not permit flammable roofing materials at all) because embers have entered the house through attic vents and other openings. These houses burned from the inside out.

In the south bay area of S.D. many people are using masks because smoke is everywhere. Seems like almost every location is either advised to evacuate or stand in case it's necessary. Also a huge smoke cloud in Mexico.

That is so apt: We counted on our pool water in our fire plan...had gas powered suction pumps at the ready in case we lost power. We even had misters on our wood roof.

Again, I knew the fear you guy face, it was always on my adolescent mind.

My simplistic best to what you folks are facing.

North County San Diego going not so good; fires in Escondido headed up the valley to RSF. Our house is in that path. Everyone in my small family is safe and I hope everyone in the paths of the many fires are putting life ahead of property.

Ahnold's motorcade passed me in the RSF village not too long ago.

Best,

Kurt

I'm in the north end of Irvine about 2 miles from where the fire passed by overnight. Irvine is in the clear for the moment thanks to some heroic fire-fighting, but the fire is headed further south right towards Foothill Ranch. They started evacuating there a few hours ago, and from what I hear it doesn't look too good for the houses out there.

Well good luck to all of you to the north. They're saying they will just let the fires burn & try to save homes, people & aminals. We will still be in trouble until the Santa Ana's stop.

I just received the following email from HR:

"All Employees-

Due to the fires burning throughout San Diego County, approximately 50 of our co-workers have been evacuated from their homes or are on the verge of evacuation.

Your help is needed at this time. If you can safely host a displaced co-worker or co-worker and family during this difficult period, please contact me or Vivien in HR by email or call ext 6661 or 6662 respectively. We will coordinate the placement based on your ability to accommodate and the co-workers needs. Also, if you yourself find that you are now in jeopardy, please let us know immediately.

Your volunteer effort will be greatly appreciated.

Malcolm"
