I saw him in South Denver, Fiddler on the Green, with Blind Melon in '93 before Shannon Hoon OD'd. Fantastic show. Neil made Jimi Hendrix proud and no, I don't say that lightly. He's one of the living legends of rock. No matter what the price go see him. He'll have an off night just like any of us, but he knows the truth; rust never sleeps especially when you stop moving.

I'd have to take my shoes off to count how many times I've seen him - solo acoustic, Crazy Horse, Shocking Pinks, Trans, Country,CSNY. Always great and would see him any chance I got. I remember seeing him in 1985 in Springfield, Ohio at a bar called the Charlie Star (since torched) with picnic benchs for seating. Just listed to a CD that I picked up at Fourbucks - live from somewhere in Cali in 1971 - on my drive to Columbus this morning.

Anyone seen his project car? A 1959 Lincoln Continental MK IV that he is converting to biodiesel/electric power. Saw it on TV and it's on his website too - doesn't look like he's getting anywhere neer Ohio soon (who can blame him).

If you like the old stuff, you owe it to yourself to checkout these two concert discs from 1970 and 1971 that came out last year. I picked them up today. Great stuff. I wish the new stuff was as good as the old stuff. I haven't been able to get into the new albums at all.

Best concert I ever saw was Bob Dylan and The Band at the Chicago Stadium during the Rolling Thunder Revue tour back in the '70's. I think.
It was a huge place (gone now) but somehow I got good seats. I remember having to address the letter for the tickets to "Box Lunch" and I never did figure that one out. Dylan was at a good time then with "Blood on the Tracks" out and "Desire" soon to come. Only thing that p!ssed off the crowd a bit was when he didn't do "Hurricane" that night. Joan Baez wasn't there that night but I think it was Roger McGuinn who did show up on stage. "The Night They Tore Ole Dixie Down" by the Band almost rocked the place as much as did "Like a Rolling Stone" by Dylan. Great memories. About 10 years later saw Dylan in Peoria during his goofy religious period and it was so bad that we were making bets on what song he was singing. But to me Dylan's genius is not his mostly poor singing and it's like what they say about Monet's paintings: If you want realism and perfect reproduction take a picture. Dylan doesn't do a "Greatest Hits" show! |
