Anyone ever use "JASCO Metal Etch"?

I'm using this stuff according to the instructions but it seems to form a flash of surface rust by the time the metal dries. Is it just me or am I doing something wrong here?

Kevin,
I've used it, and after it sets & does it's thing, I wipe or rinse it off before I apply any primer or anything else. There are a few metal prep products that do the same thing. I mostly just use one form of phosphoric acid or another - product wise now days. I clean that off well too before doing anything else. I used to get Jasco at H.D., but I think it has disappeared off the shelves there.

You need a phosphoric acid that also has zinc and phosphate. The zinc and phosphate leave a coating that keeps the flash away and helps protects against future rust.

There are several versions. PPG DX520 Metal conditioner (not DX 579 Metal cleaner), Easwood Fast Etch, or Por-15 Metal Ready.

All the paint suppliers in this area seem to carry the PPG DX579 Metal cleaner but not the DX 520 Conditioner. DX 579 has the acid but not the zinc and phosphate and it will flash rust after you rinse.
