Blaupunkt Reno Faceplate Install

I want to install the original Blaupunkt Reno back in my car. The faceplate is off and there is one of those electronic ribbon connectors that needs to be plugged in inside the cassette slot. There is a bit of access thru the cassette door but it seems near impossible. Is there a trick to it? Anybody familiar with these? Thanks!

So to complete this for those who might search for information in the future, the ribbon connector is back in. It is difficult to do (unless you have tiny hands). I was just barely able to get my pinky in the cassette door to guide the ribbon into the connector at the same time you're trying to attach the faceplate. It took several tries. Bottom line: don't remove the faceplate

The radio is back in the car and working. I also restored the cassette door that was roached out from age.

Thanks for the update. FWIW, I Googled the snot out of your question, and came up with nothing.

Nice work. Ribbon cables are frightening little bastards to men with fists of ham like myself. How did you restore the cassette door? I'm thinking another door from another faceplate?

I actually just recreated the graphics and printed it on a vinyl sticker. The quality is limited to the resolution of the printer but it came out nice considering there're some really fine lines and small fonts. Here's the graphic if anyone wants to use it.

That is very cool, I too was wondering how you restored that door.

The radio is super quirky to operate. Actually had to pull the manual out to figure out a few basic functions. I only want it in there because it was what came with the car. I'll probably not use it much at all since I don't like to insult the Porsche engineers by drowning out the engine noise

That is my number one, absolute, most frustrating pet peeve with modern head units. Every single control aspect is buried and hard to get to. I have one unit that I downloaded a PDF of the manual and did a copy-paste-highlight to a second document that I printed and keep in my glovebox so I can reference the basic controls when needed.

Here's my PSA to any first-time air-cooled 911 owner:

"Chasing high-fidelity in your new-to-you car is a fools errand. Enjoy the symphony of the engine and the tires and the gearbox and that big fan. Spend your money wisely on parts and supplies that make the car run and stop and look and feel better but good music inside the cabin of the air-cooled 911 is a unicorn concept perpetrated by the owners and sellers of aftermarket stereo equipment. The Blaupunkt Frankfurt and fresh upper-mid-quality speakers in all the original holes meets all the needs of the Porsche 911 enthusiast."

I really like my Balupunkt SQR46. It has Bluetooth, USB drives and I can plug my phone in to charge, listen to music, or have it give me turn by turn directions.

It looks like it fits in my 85 911. And it has great sound and buttons, not some touch screen interface.

Glen,

Where did you source the cell phone holder near the clock? That's pretty sweet...
