Don't toss them. Ebay, trunk and give to kid, donate to another Pelican but don't toss them.

I used to keep all of my R&T & C&D mags, but it was getting out of control. I am sure I had 12+ years worth. So, over a period of time, I thumbed through all of them, read a few articles & pulled out all of the issues with articles about 911s. I kept the issues with the 911 stories (e.g., the C&D issue where they first test the new Carrera) & pitched the rest.
I still get a lot of car mags (C&D, R&T, Automobile, AutoWeek, Excellence, Vintage Motorsport....), but I read them & then get rid of them. In fact, when I am done with them many go to my friend Wellborn, a fellow Pelican-head. There is always a "Wellborn pile" waiting for him. I have to admit that I don't find Panorama all that interesting. They usually don't stay around long. I also subscribed to Christophorus for a year -- I didn't like it. Vintage Motorsport is probably my favorite of all of them. Purging is good for the soul. But it is also fun to re-read old articles about 911s!

I have a ton as well and would like to free up the space - lots back to the early 90's and some 80's. eBay is not feasible (unless a local buyer turns up) as I sure am not going to ship hundreds of pounds of paper.
I wonder if a local charity like a Boys Club type of organization would want 'em? I'll do a little checking and post back if I find a good outlet for this stuff.

If you are serious I am about to toss mine... I think I was in PCA for a year or two... Subscribed to Excellence for probably three or four years.
Jeff, if you are interested you can have them too. I'll dig them out and see how many I have kicking around.

The friends of the LIbrary will take old mags and sell them to raise money for the library...check that ou before you flip them in the dumpster.
Now if it was Hustler..I'd be over in a flash to pick those up, no matter how stickey they are. However the only mag that I keep and stockpile is American Art Review. I usually flip the American Rifleman after I get done with reading it on the throne. Also old Antique auction catalogs can be kept, I have seen large boxes of them sell for a coupla hundred $$$. Good reference sources.

Life is easier without collections to drag along. I quit collecting stuf. Moving every few years helps to clean out as well.

Burn baby burn.
I got ride of tons of old Playboys and Road & Tracks about 3 years ago. Free at last, free at last! It was really liberating. Go through each one, tear out any articles you might want to do in the future (e.g. how to fix the AC) and move on..... It was really tough when I got rid of my National Geographic collection....

It would take awhile. but...
Scan them. Turn 'em into PDF, and burn them to DVD. And then Bittorrent.

i have complete collection of pano back to 1970 as well as many issues of the 60's. i still receive the monthly issue but seldom open and just place with the others. i have all excellence to include the early 9 issues. i keep them filed as a library, but seldom refer to any of them. also have a bunch of christoporus mags . giving to a local libray seems to be a great idea ....if they keep them on file..never would just trash them!

After reading this thread I don't feel as bad. I'm in the same boat. I've got years of Excellence, Pano, R&T, C&D, European Car, Sports Car Intl and Home Theater. I just can't seem to force myself to part with them. I can't wait until magazines begin archiving all of their articles onto the web, but at the same time there is something to be said about the convenience of a magazine in print.

If you can't Ebay or give to another Pelican then try www.freecycle.org or www.earth911.org.

Trust me. Throw 99% away!! I spent 6 years working in Europe and the Northeast and had everything in storage. After doing this, you really find out how much of a burden this junk is... If you ever need something, go on Ebay and buy it for $5 - and I am talking if that day EVER comes... Purge baby, purge...... (p.s. thank me later....)

I'm pondering the same question (again).
I went up tp the attic to put away the Christmas decorations and found wet roof plywood (damn!). I have a ton of Pano, excellence, European Car and VW Porsche magazines. I keep saying that (like another above) that I'll keep them to reference when I buy a new(er) car. Well, even though only one or two got slightly damp, they need to go. I'm going back up with a roll of twine and take them to the garage to await their meeting with the big blue truck. If anyone wants them, pick them up by Wednesday.

Here is another option:
A couple of months ago I boxed up a few years worth of Pano, C&D, and Grassroots Motorsports, along with a few stray car magazines I've picked up at the newsstand. I then mailed the 43 pound box of magazines to a friend in Iraq who distributed them amongst the soldiers at his base. He said the guys really enjoyed the stuff, even though it was all back issues.

Oh, and when you mail magazines always tell the postal clerk that you want the "media mail" rate.
