Drove from LA to the Bay Area with the family this afternoon. My wife was at the wheel and the rest of the family and I slept half the trip. The wind was quite impressive and required some steering input in a large SUV but the rain was nothing major, except over the Grapevine. If you grew up and learned how to drive in Europe, a bit of rain isn't a big deal. She drove about 60 on average - getting passed by 80% of the people, including the 18wheelers. Over the Grapevine on the southbound side, people had wrecked frequently. I am surprised we didn't get any delays northbound due to the same type of morons trying to go 80 in a rainstorm. Here in the Bay Area it is calm now but friends had called us during the trip worried we were blown off the road.

Well, it finally started raining here. my backyard patio is all wet but there's not much of a puddle. Maybe a tenth of an inch so far if that. I appreciate you other guys taking all that storm so I don't have to deal with it. tanks

I'm in Norcal, about 75 miles north of Sacramento. We had some pretty good gusts of wind and a fair amount of rain.

Unfortunately, half of the neighbor's 75ft tall cedar tree ended up on my roof, but I won't be able to assess the damage until morning. (Fortunately, the same neighbor owns a roofing company, and has already offered to cover any and all damages.)

Other than that, it wasn't too bad. We lost power at around 7:30am, so I took advantage of the situation, decided to take the day off (no power at work either) and caught up on some reading and sleep. The evening was spent having dinner at one of the only restaurants in town with power, and playing a game of Monopoly by candlelight with the S/O.

Now that I think about it, I've certainly had worse days.

Still snowing like crazy here in Squaw Valley (North Lake Tahoe). We were supposed to leave this morning, but there's no way I want to deal with that. Wind is gusting 90+ mph at the top of the mountain. Skiing will rock next weekend...unfortunately our timing was off a bit

Got maybe 1/2" of rain here, a little wind but nothing big. Looks like my area (north Orange county) was lucky.

Really getting sick and tired of this rain crap. This is the second night in a row I haven't been able to get outside for a run because of the *****ty weather. It's annoying.

Anyone hear anything about these two systems that seem to be spinning up out in the Pacific? Are they expected to impact this area?

The first one in particular looks to have some pretty nasty potential. . .

I've got a wheel barrow I mistakenly left out in the open before the storm and it has 18" of standing water in it this morning! I don't know how rain is accurately measured...this storm dropped how much up here in Pasadena? A few inches? Maybe 5"? How does that square with the empirical evidence of 18" of water in that wheelbarrow?

Measure the entire area of the wheelbarrow at the largest opening (top B x H), then compare it to the volume of water in the smaller, lowest part. with that info we can figure out how many inches of rain fell on it, assuming it wasn't near a drain spout or other thing that would affect the amount of accumulation.
