I would venture a guess that very few of us know exactly what's going on over there. Neither those stateside *or* those in theater. The message gets skewed in both directions.

With lots of pictures. Tough call for the navy commander, but I probably would have suspected it was a ruse. Not to say I wouldn't have fired on them if they got too close though.

Fixed that mock quote for you P-O-P.

Supposing a couple of Iranian planes repeatedly attacked the ship for over an hour trying to sink it........

They were testing their new Soviet electronics, testing when laser targeting activates, how they respond to mines, and finding out if the Navy has the brass to blast them.

I expect more sos.

If we attacked Iran with less than a year left in Bush's presidency, I wonder how a Dem will handle it.

1) Because, after all, it seems there's a strong chance Obama or Clinton will win in November.

2) A war with Iran won't end before Bush leaves office. Particularly if Russia feels it should get involved.

What's more amazing is when they look the facts straight in the face & refuse to let reality get in the way of what they want to believe. I have come to the realization that in the world of true believers, there is only black and white, no grey. It doesn't matter whether the belief is in religion, politics, global warming, animal rights or whatever, it's still the same.

Anyone bother to watch the Iranian video. Seems to me there was no direct threat whatsoever and the voice was from somewhere else.

Steve. Please keep in mind that many here think foreign relations is best handled with a blunt tool. In this case, George W. Bush. If they wanted somebody with communication skills, they would have elected Jesse Ventura.

Funny, mule...I see the extreme right as being the ones that see only black and white and not shades of grey. The liberals are too busy sifting through too much information and therefore unable or at least reluctant to take a definite stand.

I think the Iranians got all nostalgic and wanted a twenty year reunion. I'm up for it.

not gonna happen imo

Iran has a few months left to negotiate w/Bush before the Clintons takes over. They are afraid of a militarized Gulf with tons of US $ to buy weapons and invade them. Wars cost $ and Iran is broke. Iran will join Pax Americana or risk a losing war with its neighbors. Even Iran's military is only designed for public unrest.

As far as a religious influenced democracy is concerned, a successful Turkey shows Iran's policies are a failure and Iran's middle class knows it. Their last hope was an unstable Iraq they could influence.

When the religious head leader in Saudi Arabia recently announced that terrorism misguides youth it was another nail in Iran's terrorist stance.

For sure 2008 will be the time when the mid-east leaders will have to make strategic decisions. Bush's policies are uncomplicated and unwavering. He must really believe in God.

Unwaivering, yes. Intelligent and strategic, no. Ron, I'm not sure Dubya would understand what you just said. While Iran, Saudi Arabia and others are playing chess, Dubya is preparing for a wrestling match. That would be great, if only it WERE a wrestling match. It's not. It's a chess game. Sledge hammers don't help you win chess games.
