Check my avatar. 688 class Birmingham. My uncle was Chief Photographer at Newport News Shipbuilding and Drydock Co. and took many sea trial and shake down cruise photos.

This one was proudly displayed over the fireplace in their den!

No and you would not want that to happened on a Navy sub.

But the small version can.

Avro Arrow

Interesting history surrounding this jet...
__________________________________________________ _________________
The fall of the Avro Arrow

So why was the Avro Arrow cancelled by the Canadian government in 1959?

“The official reason given by the Diefenbaker government [at that time] was that the Arrow was too expensive, and it was no longer worth the money,” Cohen said. “Avro as a company was going through millions of taxpayer dollars.”

“The government had an agenda to destroy it. They wanted the money for other things, so they came up with all kinds of reasons why they didn’t need it,” Squires said.

The reasons for the cancellation of the Arrow were a mix of politics, timing, and bad luck. The CF-105 (as the Arrow was officially known) was originally designed as a long-range interceptor, meant to meet and destroy Soviet bombers.

But on October 4, 1957 – the same day as the first Avro Arrow rolled off the production line – the Soviets launched the satellite Sputnik, becoming the first nation to put a man-made object into orbit.

And just like that, everything changed.

The Sprinter concept
Gannet Design Moto Guzzi Sprinter Is a Truly Different Concept - autoevolution

Quote:
Few riders know that the Moto Guzzi V8 motorcycle was one of the fastest and most badass bikes of its time, and was doing over 170 mph (270 km/h) in the mid-50’s. However, even though the bike was only produced for racing purposes for a few years only, the heritage of the 500cc-class V8 beast has endured the passing of time, and designers like Ulfert Janssen of Gannet Design are not afraid to make use of its almost magic allure.

Pic to comply with thread rules.

On 20 February 1959 "Black Friday" - Diefendoofus - the PM at the time, effectively killed Canada's aerospace industry with one fell swoop by his cancellation of the programme. Most of the AVRO techs joined NASA shortly after they were unceremoniously dumped & helped a great deal in putting Armstrong on the moon. The mystifying & absurd part of the debacle which aggravates most was as follows: "The cancellation was the topic of considerable political controversy at the time, and the subsequent destruction of the aircraft in production remains a topic for debate among historians and industry pundits. "This action effectively put Avro out of business and its highly skilled engineering and production personnel scattered. The assembly line, tooling, plans and existing airframes and engines were ordered to be destroyed"

STOOOPID!!

Cheers
JB

One of my all time favorite cars... but barring me hitting the lotto (very unlikely seeing as I don't buy lotto tickets) I doubt I will get to drive one.

What is it like to drive?

Absolutely stunning car. What is most impressive is that for how competent it is on the track, it doesn't beat you up on public roads. Brilliant suspension engineering/tuning.

560 horsepower to motate 3000 pounds. It will keep up with traffic adequately. Quite the crowd pleaser screaming past at 8000 rpm.

Thought I'd better post another pic:

This is the track, picture taken from another form of transportation. "The Ridge". I've never had a favorite track, as they're all fun, until I drove here.

Picture taken while the track was still under construction.

They now also have a kart track that is a 1/5 scale of the big track. Elevation changes and all. Very cool.

One more thing about the Lambo-

I was limiting myself to 150 mph. It is still pulling hard, but being that it's not my car, and I have passengers, no sense in going into turn 1 at the limits.
Just took it to 150, then lifted well before the braking zone. No sense burning up tires & brakes. I'm just giving rides.

Another random transportation pic:
