Picture taken while the track was still under construction.

They now also have a kart track that is a 1/5 scale of the big track. Elevation changes and all. Very cool.

Love The Ridge too! T12 on the cooldown lap after morning practice (WMRRA)....

On 20 February 1959 "Black Friday" - Diefendoofus - the PM at the time, effectively killed Canada's aerospace industry with one fell swoop by his cancellation of the programme. Most of the AVRO techs joined NASA shortly after they were unceremoniously dumped & helped a great deal in putting Armstrong on the moon. The mystifying & absurd part of the debacle which aggravates most was as follows: "The cancellation was the topic of considerable political controversy at the time, and the subsequent destruction of the aircraft in production remains a topic for debate among historians and industry pundits. "This action effectively put Avro out of business and its highly skilled engineering and production personnel scattered. The assembly line, tooling, plans and existing airframes and engines were ordered to be destroyed"

STOOOPID!!

It would have been a decent interceptor, but it would have never been a good frontline fighter.

Germany was fond of using interceptors as fighters, bet they would have bought a few.

Long range was not important in Europe, and the small nose cone could contain miniaturized radars. This overseas success was tainted when investigators found in 1975 Lockheed spent millions of dollars in bribes to sell aircraft to foreign customers.

To make landing speeds “reasonable,” The F-104 forced engine air through the wings to smooth the airflow and give more lift. With bleed air, the Zipper could land at the challenging but not extreme speed of 160 to 165 knots. If the air-bleed system was not working, landing speeds climbed to 240 knots.

Coincidentally I mentioned the movie 'The Right Stuff' in another thread. The F-104 used in that movie was actually a Luftwaffe F-104 as the USAF no longer operated them.
