For those who missed it, I had posted a vintage photo of ex-Funny Car racer Gary Dyer's Romeo Palamides-built Pro Stock Hemi Dodge Colt. As was the common custom at drag races of that era, there was a young hottie who's job it was to stay with the car for photo ops, and unfortunately she was a more prominent feature of the photo than the 1972 Colt. If she had stayed in the kitchen where she belonged, everyone could have enjoyed the photo. For those who do not know, due to it's power to weight ratio and high center of gravity, a great many of the Colts wrecked. In fact, the Hemi Colt was outlawed by NHRA for legal Pro Stock, so racers had to race in IHRA, UDRA, or NHRA A/A, B/A, or A/FX. Dyer's car was equipped with a 366" Hemi to run an 8.72 @ 155.87. 8.72 in a door-slammer. For reference, here is a generic 1972 Dodge Colt. Imagine it with a hemi, traveling at 155mph in the quarter. I would like to have seen the picture of the Hemi powered Colt with the girl. A friend of mine used to run a 340 powered Colt. I know that Hemi colts were built but I haven never seen one. I might be wrong but I think Ronnie Sox played with one for a season or two

Yes, Sox and Martin also ran one of the little beasties. Ronnie and Buddy were "friends of the family" in the early 60's. Unfortunately, I didn't come along until 68 and I never got to meet them in person. I see the "Mr. Norms" on the Challenger in your pic. You may already know that Gary Dyers' car was also sponsored by Grand Spaulding Dodge of Chicago - home of "Mr. Norm".

I am very lucky to have met some of those guys over the years. I met Dick Landy, Ronnie Sox, Don Garlits , Arlen Vanky, Roy Clark ( he used to run some Hemi cars) ...the list goes on...Its a shame that Landy and Sox are gone. of all the people I've met over the years Don Garlits was probably one of most down to earth and coolest guys I"ve ever met. I dont think he ever met a stranger. I met Tom Hoover once. He is considered the Father of the Hemi. He designed it. He was cool to talk to.
This picture is random ...not mine

Manufacturer plates on this MKT, next years model? There was another manufacturer plate going the other way on a black MKZ (2010 grille change).

that is a cool bug Paul
this is 2006 Alpine 500, finish in Fairplay, CA. That blue Fiat was Lapawuli's(James Montebello) who passed away maybe a few months after this. He had to MacGuyver one of the struts when he lost the bolt off the top on a none too smooth or straight road
