What's the leather piece on the fan shaft? Some kind of dampner?

1977 Celica resto-mod (but still all-Toyota!)



6 cylinder 3 liter FI engine (from Lexus GS300 and the like) with A/C and power steering - in lieu of the stock 2.2 4 cylinder.





Unbelievable interior work - especially the leather-over-oem-plastic components!
And underneath that shifter is a late model 5 speed and Supra rear suspension

That's s period accessory to keep the water pump grease from spraying the inside of the hood. You can see some on the left side hood panel in the photo.
