As posted in another car forum..................looks interesting.

1990 Toyota Sera
https://saltlakecity.craigslist.org/cto/d/rare-fun-driver/6593619169.html

Quote:
Originally a Toyota concept car, went into production for the 1990 model year. Exceptional condition, interior and exterior like new, even the underside looks new. Just might be the most fun you'll ever have while driving! Legally imported and titled in Utah. Always garage kept, never seen snow and rarely even rain. Extremely light, handles incredibly well staying flat even when cornering at speed. Factory option sound system and has snap in shade panels for the overhead glass. Consistently gets 35MPG. Very dependable Toyota drive train.
Maybe someone could deliver mail/newspapers in it.

Those aren't NACA ducts, they were derived from this car when it was found this type of duct was lass draggy and moved more air than a NACA duct.

I really like that Intrepid concept. The cab-forward design and "canopy" cockpit. Overall, very era-appropriate, clean and good looking. Can't believe I'm saying this about a Dodge. Reminds me a little of the original NSX or maybe something like this:

I think that's just a NACA-ish duct, the ramp angle is quite critical for its functionality.

... meanwhile this "NACA" duct was moulded on a women's bicycle saddle (true story).

The original design on the M4S used a NACA "scoop" as he called it in the interview.

I will have to check the timeline on the Concept Cars in question, but I perhaps saw the precursor to the Dodge Concepts being posted at the recent Eyes on Design Auto-show last Sunday. Maybe it came after, will verify.

And about the NCAC duct, yea right you are FLIPPER35, I posted a full article on that a year or two ago, very interesting development.

Lamborghini Portofino

Quote:
While the Portofino was a one of a kind concept and Chrysler ownership of Lamborghini would not survive, the concept's design would inform and influence Chrysler cars for the next two decades. The wide low stance and open plan interior would become the hallmark of the Chrysler LH body vehicles and their "cab-forward" design standard. The triangular headlights and dual notched rear indicators would find their way directly to the first generation Dodge Intrepid and serve as key design points throughout that vehicle's existence.................

The Portofino was notable for being an early example of cab forward styling, and many aspects of its design made it into the Chrysler LH platform which initially included the Chrysler Concorde, Dodge Intrepid and Eagle Vision.
EDIT:

Dodge M4S "Wraith" is early 1980's, the Lamborghini Portofino is late 1980's, family ties though Chrysler ownership.

This was designed to the original profile data, minus the uneven base surface. In the end the air reaching the area was too messy to do much good, but still better than having an inlet lower down purely because there was less crap being ingested.

Not often that you see a NACA duct on an F1 car nowadays:

Then there is this abomination. I keep meaning to run CFD on this because everything I read suggests it doesn't work like this.

More NACA

Yes, but ours have variable inlet geometry. Neener neener neener.
