I suspect the differential cover may be painted white? Without the axles, there is no way to mount the wheel bearings.

Possible theft recovery.

A friend bought a Nissan 300ZX turbo at an insurance auction with very minimal damage.
Found the insurance card in the glove box, called the agent.
The story- A young kid owned the car, was his most prized possession, and his only asset.
Minor fender-bender, and he absolutely refused to have it with damage history.
They went round and round with the kid, finally said they'd total it, knowing it would bring a fair amount at auction.

I bought my 911 at an insurance auction. minor engine fire. Perfect candidate to toss the wimpy 2.4 and stuff a 3.2 in there.
Here's before & after pics:

You may be correct about the paint but 1 Ton axle has floating axels. Maybe 3/4 ton too. Anyway the wheel bolts to the hub not the axle.

not knowing about chevy rear axle and hubs, but I thought the wheel bearings mount to the axle, then the hub slides over the bearing. without an axle how are the hubs supported.

Ok, thanks for the video. The hubs ride on two bearings on the outside of the tube. The axle then bolts to the outside of the hub. So, it would be possible to run the rear end without an axle and use the front wheel drive only. That being said, the picture of the truck with what looks like no diff cover (or no differential for that matter) is possible. Which brings up another question. Why?
