This pic has been around since long before photoshop. I imagine the snow had bridged over the crevasse, and the weight sno-cat collapsed the bridge, so to speak.

I agree, I remember seeing this MANY years ago before the internet and saw it in a magazine or a book or somethig. I seem to recall that this was a tucker sno cat, no relation to preston.

Oh, here is my transportation pic. Flew one of these yesterday. What a kick. Cessna 162 Skycatcher (replaces 152). Uses a stick in stead of a yoke, was REALLY roomy, loved the glass cockpit (simplier than g1000s), hated the caster nose wheel). 100 hp and still uses a carburator...what were they thinking! Still, it flew nicely. At only about 800 lbs it has a really good power to weight ratio so a high fun factor.

sucksqueezebangblow: Porsche 909 'Bergspyder'

Quote:
One of Porsche's more brutal competition efforts, the 909 'Bergspyder' is as hardcore as they come. Powered by a 2.0-litre eight-cylinder boxer that produced around 300bhp, the car tipped the scales at just 385kg; it was effectively an aerodynamic soap-box racer with a huge sting in the tail.

Efficient Utilitarian Truck Looks Good.............November 29, 2011
Efficient Utilitarian Truck Looks Good | New Energy and Fuel
Quote:
Mercedes has pushed for a working group of truck and trailer manufacturers under the umbrella of the German Association of the Automotive Industry, which has carried out further tests on the aerodynamics of semi-trailer tractors. Within the framework of the study, measurements in the wind tunnel at Mercedes-Benz concluded that modifications to the cab such as a supposedly aerodynamic extension result in merely minimal improvements where wind resistance is concerned.

They also learned there is much more potential in aerodynamic measures at the tail end of the trailer; a minor extension of the tail end in the form of a “boat tail” brings significant benefits. Four flaps measuring just 400 mm in length and positioned at an angle reduce the wind resistance of the entire semi-trailer tractor by nearly 10%. In arithmetical terms this corresponds to virtually 3% less fuel consumption or more than 1,000 liters of diesel a year. This is also shown by the simulations, which have been carried out for the aero trailer.

Virgin's teardrop lorries?

Here, this is better (the real thing - not a cartoon):
Aerodynamic Teardrop Trailer

Jumpy little site ain't it?
Trailer Aerodynamics

Fuel consumption is primarily attributable to 3 things: (1) resistance to inertia, (2) rolling resistance and (3) aerodynamics.
DON-BUR'S "EcoStream" Aerodynamic Curtainsided Double Deck Trailer Under Test
EcoStream Under Test

DON-BUR: DeckStreamer

Quote:
Despite the recognised 10-18% fuel saving attributable to the EcoStream, there is an unavoidable loss of load-space. For those operators who are normally able to max-fill the area over the swan-neck, an EcoStream profile lowers the maximum potential.

Top speed - SR-71 about 2,200 mph.
Operating altitude - SR-71 about 85,000 feet.
Not to put too fine a point on this; these performance figures were made public to establish the superiority of this aircraft & were not necessarily the maximum limits of its performance capabilities.

Obligatory pic

Cheers
