Looks like a torpedo bomber, but none of the ones I'm familiar with.

Hint:
The manufacturer made two-three early turds but came up smelling roses when they 'helped' with the Corsair a very successfull WWII AND Korean era fighter. Longest running fighter production....the Gull wing was designed to allow clearance for the big ass prop.

Why didn't they just make the landing gear taller?

Later they had some issues....including getting sued for 10 mill....lotta bucks back then, two wanker sales reps went to jail.

F4U Corsair used the inverted gull wing because it had a 12 foot diameter prop, but also to keep the gear short and robust to handle the controlled stalls onto carrier decks. Also, the gear retracted rearward and rotated 90 degrees to become totally enclosed in the wing, and it could carry heaver bomb loads. The Stuka JU87 and the Aichi B7A also had inverted gull wings for similar reasons.

From your "hint", could it be a Vought built aircraft? So, could it be an SB2U Vindicator?

Notice the unique bomb release device as this was a dive bomber. The fork or "trapeze" would swing the bomb clear of the aircraft during a dive.

It's a Brewster aircraft....maker of the Flying Coffin, Buffalo. The Buff helped absorb a lot of Japanese munitions while trying to defend Midway. Most never made it back to base.

Yes, torpedo bomber but most pilots cussed it out.....

Brewster Bermuda or Buccaneer....another version of low bidders.

Some idiot in the war departement allowed them to build the Corsair under contract.
