Good picture of the Wright R 3350 ! A compounded engine to boot with 3 PRT's. Those were the days! Burned more 115/145 octane fuel at start up than a car would use all day long.

Lockheed Constellation was a great airplane with beautiful lines. I've got a few thousand hours in "Connies". Weak point on the 3350 turbo compound engine pictured was the PRT turbos that self destructed on a regular basis.

It talks about how the "PRT" or "power recovery turbine" (aka parts recovery turbine) can cause the engine to burn exhaust valves.

That's a turbo-compound engine from an L-1049 series Super Constellation. The Air France artwork shows an earlier L-049/749 airplane without the turbo-compound engines.

More of my Connie photos. The Air Force called them EC-121s and I believe the Navy called them WVs. I think this was a typhoon tracker WV-3 attached to the VW-1 squadron stationed on Guam.

Count me in this camp. It looks like every other berserk, ultra supercar; overwrought, pointless 'design'. This and the new Corvette are silly examples of the "Transformer" school of styling. If a person wants $$$ high-performance in a car, why do they have to put up with this kind of thing?
