Maybe you could be the lead singer instead. Less expensive.

I tried singing once, the rest of the band said I should sing tenor.
Tenor 12 miles from here.

rimshot! but seriously folks, you've been a great audience. Don't forget to tip your waitress.

Scuise my ignorance, but what does "short scale" mean?

Don´t worry about it. I was the singer in our band twenty five years ago. I was completely worthless. Point was, the rest of the guys were even worse.

Tanks, I did not know that.
I checked the specs on a les paul, it is listed as 24 3/4" scale so that rondo is only a tad shorter.

I have read that the shorter scale has the frets a little closer together and the string tension is a might less. Should make it easier to play for a new guy. I bought one of the Tele type models and was very surprized at how good the guitar is.

I've been thinking about taking up guitar again as well. Any thoughts on a reasonable quality but cheap acoustic? (I'm not sure if this is just a passing fancy or if I'll stick with it).

I pulled the trigger on a fullerton, made in Japan by Aria. Reviews say they play better than squires. Looks pretty much like this (but left-handed):

Cost me $50 but sometimes you have to say, what the heck
I've never been much of an equipment snob even though I've owned some nice stuff over the years. I figure I can play as bad on this guitar as i can on any of the higher priced stuff.
A little fiddling, maybe an HB bridge pup and I'll be all set. Now all I have to do to is learn how to play again. Oh wait, I may need an amp.
The wife is going to check on a price for a Roland micro-cube (prolly get one fer cost plus 5), that should do for a while. Anyone ever played through an MC? Heard good things about em.

Agreed, the Washburn (totally under-rated) and Text-Mex Strat, huge bang for buck guitars..

Years ago I bought a "jimmy Vaughn" mex-Strat ($350?), installed a used set of texas special p/ups and the thing just screams...

and the RG series of Ibanez' lite alder bodied guitars are a good buy @ <450

There are still good Pawn shops finds.. lots of the late 80's & early 90's guitars are still hanging there, as they became modified by their PO and no-longer popular..Once cleaned up they are good to go..

I've actually played some very good inexpensive Japanese guitars..years ago some fender knock-offs were pretty good too....
then on the otherhand some were un-playable (warped necks, weak pick/ups, cheap hardware wouldn't stay in tune) guess it comes down to playing it before cutting loose with the $$...

LOL, just found this.
Wish you were here, played through a Roland micro-cube 2 watt battery powered amp. Gotta love that.

I'd stay away from any of the electronic amps that claim to emulate the sounds of other amps. Problem is, they don't.

A number of years ago the band I was in took a road trip to Monterey to record a demo. The owner of the studio convinced us to leave our amps at home, since he had "plenty." Turns out he had a Line Six and Pro Tools (that he didn't know how to use.) Let's just say that a Line Six did not quite sound as good as the tube Marshalls or Fenders that we were using regularly.

Yes, we were idiots, and learned our lesson.

Good for ya Sammy. Guitars can be like golf clubs, it's the guy on the "business end" that makes them show their worth. Buy a stand and stick it near the front door to remind yourself to pick it up often. Great stress reliever.
