Yea, there's no easy way to do it. Just this AM I was out for a ride & got angrily honked at by at least 4-5 cars on a short (about 1/2 mile) stretch of 2-lane road (Ocean Boulevard coming back from Belmont Shore) because I was "hogging" the r/h lane. Sorry guys, but I'm not about to get pinched between the parked cars and some jackass in his SUV on the phone who's not paying attention. At least if you're pissed off at me, you're aware I'm there. Nothin' personal.

I commute every morning ~10 miles, never been honked at or pressured by cars. At times, the bike lanes are full of dirt, garden waste, empty trash cans, etc, but I get around it all just fine.

LA sounds really lame.

Please be safe! It's not the drivers that see you and honk that will hit you, but the one that doesn't see you and don't honk that will.

Cycling sucks when on the very first day that I ride my new road bike into work, it starts snowing...after I get to work. Been doing it all morning....

I had a road bike for year, to commute to work in Toronto, even with bike lanes I hated it. I have never had a car honk at me when Im mountain biking throught the woods though. Unfortunatly North American drviers arent accustomed to encountering cyclists and dont know how to behave around them. The roads are for cars and you are taking up a few valuable feet of thier precious road with your bicycle. I have been hit by a car, I dont recommend it.

The mud and dirt are back. Saw it, then rode through and around it last night.

Not all is perfectly care-free when on the mountain bike! There is a 600-acre chunk of woods nearby full of trails- Everything from wide and relatively flat to very technical. Fun for everyone.

But watch out for the occasional piles of horse poop!
