Hell yeah COFFEE TO THE EXTREME.

Welp, through a wonderful collaboration between lady LUCK and the extreme generosity of a friend, I have come into posession (at an incredible price) of this:

The Nuova Simonelli "microbar".

Coffee geeks rejoice. Now I have to figure out where to put it. You just push a button and it's all automatic. Even makes foamy milk automatically (but I've been told it's a PITA to clean and deal with the machine if you do that, so I'm not gonna.)

I'm having a 2.4 REMOVAL PARTY sometime soon, so If you like fancy espresso, come on over!!!!!!!!!!

Over $5k?!!! Are you ****** kidding me? That thing better please me in bed and change my oil for that much! Holy hell, and I thought my $100 Bunn was an extravagant coffee maker!

Gogar 04-21-2008 03:24 PM

Yeah I know. I didn't even know there was such a thing myself.

Porsche-O-Phile 04-21-2008 03:25 PM

Oh my that is sexy. . .

Gogar 04-21-2008 03:35 PM

I guess I prolly shouldn't tell the GF how much they're SUPPOSED to cost.

Gird your loins 'cuz you're gonna get the "Tabs Salvatore Rant" shortly.

A friend of mine had a $10K Capresso machine that he and some co-workers split. Pretty cool how the entire process is automated. I always envision all sorts of Rube Goldberg parts in there.

After some reading, I've found that (fortunately) I can adjust the coarse-fine grinding with my CIS mixture adjustment wrench.

craigster59 04-21-2008 03:52 PM

We have those at the craft service table on the movie sets. They make a great cup of joe, and even better espressos , lattes and cappacionos. I guess you can add Barista to your resume' :)

Gogar 04-21-2008 04:05 PM

What now? TAKE IT APART, OF COURSE.

Why not? Actually, it comes apart really easy for cleaning.

Here's the whole "automatic" assembly. There's two grinders up top, one on each side; you can see them here.

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1208818977.jpg

Each grinder is automatic, fresh ground for every cup.

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1208819012.jpg

After grinding, there's an automated servo-operated tamper:

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1208819082.jpg

The tamper compresses the coffee into the brewing cup and then the heated water is pushed through the coffee at high pressure.

Then, if you 'want' something milky, you can put some milk on the side and it is siphoned through a tube, heated, and automatically foamed for you, and dumped on top of your coffee, macchiato, whatever. YOU LAZY FOOL.

With a machine like that one doesn't have to be any smarter than a clerk at McDonalds.

Damn, I was expecting more. I am left a bit dissatisfied.

Gogar 04-21-2008 04:14 PM

That's why it's so perfect for me.

When I was contemplating machines, I thought about the Automatics. What disuaded me from pursuing the type was there are too many functions that can go wrong and be a maintence nightmare. However for the price Gogar paid which I assume was FREE...he can't go wrong.

Ttttaaaaaa Daaaaaaa

Here comes the Salvatore...

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1208821370.jpg

When I went to place an order for my Salvatore, I asked MR Salvatore whether I should by his manual machine or his programmable semi-auto machine. He unequivocally said his manual. Less to go wrong in the long run. So that is what I bought. I guess you have to be a bit smarter than a little monkey in a tree or McDonalds' employee to operate one. However U don't have to be smarter by very much.

tabs 04-21-2008 04:50 PM

With the Salvatore I actually get to turn the knobs....

gtc 04-21-2008 04:53 PM

Nice setup. I wish mine were fully manual.
I see we both have the E-61 group, heh heh heh...

Ahhh. I feel better now.

I need a new machine but I don't think I'm going to drop $5K. And I think a Salvatore is gonna run at least $3K (I'm guessing). If I need to find a good machine for $1500 or so (monkey style or manual).
