This is one of BMW's own cars. Supposedly it was rebuilt about 80% using parts still available from BMW. |

I assume you've been to this site:
http://2002ad.com/ You won't find a cheap bargain, but they've got stuff http://2002ad.com/pages/carsforsale.cfm |
Here is a site to start with...a compilation of many for sale sites..
http://jaxed.com/cgi-bin/ms.cgi?veh=bmw%202002 You can also check bmw2002faq for sale section http://www.bmw2002faq.com/component/option,com_forum/Itemid,50/page,viewforum/f,5/ I see you already frequent that area.. They also have a good section on what to look for in a 2002 http://www.bmw2002faq.com/content/view/80/32/ Good luck, great cars. Had them for years. |

I use the same forum name at 2002Faq too. Been posting a little more lately :D Jaxed is ok, but it doesn't really hit that much more. Thanks for the tips tho! |
>Furthermore, BMW still supports their vintage vehicles, so many, many parts are still available on-line and/or through the dealerships. When I go to Porsche inquiring about parts for my '79 & '71, I get the "sucking on a dog-doo flavored Lifesaver" look from the counter guy...
Not that I fundamentally disagree, but you're just taking up the @#$ either way. I just priced a trunk lid for my 73 2002: $850 A set of used door panels: $400 ! Hell, appbiz can sell me 4 RS door panels for that price ! BMW may sell old parts but sometimes I wish they wouldn't bother and aftermarket would take over instead, it'd be cheaper ! Mine: http://members.rennlist.com/greg/BMW2002_hagerty.jpg And with the new wheels, from the good side (where no rust is visible ;-) http://members.rennlist.com/greg/2002_side.jpg |
Nice Inka!

I was afraid to stop and look at it for fear I would buy it... but I already have a 944 to take care of. |
|
Looks nice but a little too spendy for my budget, I am assuming.

As far as brakes, nuts and bolts, I have equal luck finding stuff for the Porsche and Bimmer... The big difference is that you can buy a tranny or motor for a song, but then again you should, it's not exactly a powerhouse ;-) Fun car though ! |
Check out this guys for sale collection:
http://picasaweb.google.com/evanesterman I think his website is bimmerbothers.net in Nor Cal. I personally like his '82 Alpina he's got on craigs right now: http://sfbay.craigslist.org/pen/car/669593014.html |

Small world. I've been considering getting back into 2002s again myself. However, I keep reminding myself why I switched to 911s - 2002 parts are just as expensive, if not more so, than 911 parts. Once you get past the entry fee, there's no cost advantage at all. As I recall, parts like dashboards (all pre 76 crack at the first hint of sunlight) bumper accordians, weather seals, square grills, etc are nla or very expensive. Now I see that a decent 2002 also will set you back darn near 5 figures although bargains can still be had.
Some clarification - 76 2002s are common - I've had 3. I'm guessing Californa smog issue. Rust on a 2002 is common everywhere, but often considered terminal if on the shock towers. The rockers and front fender bottoms are particularly bad on 2002s Rear fender lips as well. Pre 73s have pita seat belts - no inertia reels. I would avoid those for that reason alone. They are no easier to work on than a 911 contemporary imo. They get lousy mileage for a 4 banger. Interior bits are $$$ and you will need interior bits. I laughed at the understeer comment. He's right - they will plow through turns all day. It's near impossible to get a 2002 suspension neutral. That said, they still handle nicely - if you like understeer. Overall cool cars. I may still get one if the right car comes along. That will make 2002 number 10 for me. |

Thanks Jim, but they're a little too far away unfortunately.

Are you sure? I could test them for you. Really...it's no trouble. :D
