I think we've hit a new low........ There's so many things that can be said, but Snowman has already dug his own grave and filled it with concrete. I know one thing, most of these "cavemen" are probably far happier than he seems to be.

Indeed, I often wonder if modern mankind is any better off with all our toys... we work and work and kill outselfs to make enough money to be comfortable and have fun.

Some of my happiest times were when I went backpacking.

And rich and famous prople kill themselfs every day.

Exactly. We kill ourselves for a lifetime at work, just to have stuff. If that stuff were not available, or we weren't aware of the existence of said stuff, would we really be worse off? I work for a house, car, etc but don't really derive any true happiness from them. Someone in the middle of the jungle can have a family that makes them happy, just like I do.

For example I go to Hawaii, I meet travelers there that have saved and this is the big moment in their life.

Then I look and there are some locals living on the beach, eating fish they catch out of the ocean, chicken that run wild, fruit that grows in the jungle, selling a little weed that also grows in the jungle for a some pocket change.

Who in that picture is better off?

That is so true. Very, very few real differences between peoples around the world. Great cultural differences, but not much else.
no need to be bringing Obama into this thread! He seems to have invaded all the others...(bout da only ting dat liberal is gonna invade).

Well put.

But my basic question is Why are there so many cavemen living in todays world? Just wondering why?

I have been to some very remote parts of the world, including South Africa, Liberia West Africa, and Costa Rica. To put it plain and simple: the people who you label as "backwards cavemen" do not have the same opportunities as you and I do. Now you may say, "Then they should just move to a place where they can do better." Even THAT opportunity is not available to them. They simply cannot afford it! I am uncertain of the costs, but for a man and his family to move out of Kenya to the United States would probably cost the man his lifetime earnings. They are stuck in their lot, and do the best to survive with what means they can survive with.

These people can't afford plywood and nails, so they use what the earth has given them -- mud and straw, and thatch. Don't underestimate their ability to think -- they may not be able to code in HTML, but they know what plants and animals are good to consume, and which ones are poisonous. They know how to fend for themselves without the need to use a credit card, a gun, or the internet. I have seen this FIRST HAND.

Further - I suspect that most of the cavemen who have made a life for themselves and their family are probably happier and more content than you or I, or most of the western 'civilized' world. Riches don't always equate to happiness.

In many parts of the world, there aren't programs like 'government subsidized food programs' or welfare, or ANYTHING. Again - I have seen this first hand. Add to that the fact that there are civil wars, strife, rebel combat occurring all over -- things aren't as peaceful in this world as we ignorant Americans believe.

If you are so troubled by how much the cavemen are destroying our world then instead of posting something so far from the truth and ignorant, why don't you do something about it -- go out into the world and see for yourself what's going on, and try to make a difference.

-Z-man.
I just asked the question, WHY? Your comments are truly offensive, you implied racism, I only asked WHY Why is approx 25% of the world living like cavemen? Your reasons do not make sense. You assume a lot, present useless information on why you think we are somehow responsible for their condition. We are not.

We are very efficient, clean people. The carbon footprint is bogus, a red herring. Even 2000 years ago the Romans lived, on an evolutionary scale 30,000 years, better than much of the rest of the world and those same people today. Their per person impact on the environment was much greater than anyone today.

Finally...What is narrow minded about asking a question about a simple fact? I made no attempt to state any reason as to why those people live the way they do, but I did ask the question WHY do they even exist in todays world? Your statement is simply a slam directed at me personally. It has no basis and adds nothing to answer a obvious question. If someone from outer space came here it would be very reasonable for him to ask Why is so much of the world living like cavemen.

I wish people who cannot come up with something relevant to the subject would stop putting words in my mouth.

My question is due to my curiosity, nothing more. Curiosity is just natural for us scientific types. Pointless zings seem to be the only answer that liberals can come up with. When you are clueless, just put nasty words into the mouths of others and then zing them for saying something that they never said.

Another liberal. I am very happy. Now that you KNOW how I feel, please refrain from telling me how I feel.

By the way, I don't drink Gin either. I do enjoy a good bottle of Silver Oak Cab, but its not that late in the day yet.

I love my job, always enjoyed work as much as play. In fact I would have paid to do the work I did. There is NO way anyone can have more fun than Racing a Porsche. I get a real kick out of all the high tech gadgets and I am certain no one could be happier than I am. I am retired and still having fun.

I know a lot of other people who have a good time and are very happy with their life and their work, so I wonder about people who think living in a mud hut, eating fruit and nuts and dying at age 25, are somehow happier than we are. Some people are happy, no matter what their circumstance is.

I really doubt happiness has anything to do with why people are still in the stone age.

I'm guessing they smile more than we do.
Hey, Super-

Our capitalistic system is what has allowed me and some other compassionate people I know acquire enough money to pay our own way to Nicaragua, and financially support an entire new villiage.

Yes, they smile more than we do.

Mostly, because for the first time in their lives, they have a future, because we are helping them purchase land! They have a community coffee crop, and every family has their own plot to do as they see fit. And we see them beginning to thrive.

When it comes to poverty, we both want the same thing. We just have very different ideas on how to get there.

The Superman-colored glasses think all conservatives are selfish trolls, who would step on their mother's neck for another nickel.

The Dantilla-colored glasses look at government as the most inefficient way to help social problems. Hold government responsible for basic defense and infrastructure (note I didn't say "hate" government), and leave the rest up to people.

Foreign aid to Nicaragua doesn't help these people. Bureaucrat's salaries must be paid. Forms must be filled out. Oops! The accountants just lost a few million bucks somewhere. The local corrupt officials prevent the funds from getting to the right people. Very inefficient. Poor results.

When I personally write a check, I can see the results, today. And all of it goes where it will provide the greatest benefit.

Wow. Compassionate conservative.... Who would have thought that?

Back to your original question, I will comment on my recent trip to central Mexico where many people may not live like cavemen but sanitation is way below most modern societies standards. They have an abundance of natural resources and plenty of intelligent, hard working people. So the only reason I can come up with is rampant corruption... or mans inhumanity to man.
