Which GPS to Buy?
I rented one from National Rent a car today in Boston and found it to be pretty handy. It's a kind of big Garmin model. I'm thinking of buying one. Any suggestions of make and model? I did a search and found stuff on one or two, but nothing overall. I travel alot for work and occasionally go overseas.

I wouldn't recommend the Nuvi 350, which is what I've got. (Don't even ask Cesiro about this.) Feel free to come by when you get back and borrow it for a bit, if you really need FHE to convince you of that.

Very timely, I was gonna post this question as well. I have seen the small Garmins and they seem pretty good. I have also heard (but not witnessed) the Tom Toms were really good as well.
I will wait to read what the collective directs.

I picked up a Magellan 3225 at Costco a couple weeks ago for $150. The speech thing is nice. I'm sure there are nicer units out there, but for something that will be obsolete in 6-12 months, I didnt want to drop $300+.
Good luck |

We have the Garmin Nuvi200w. We went with the wider screen. Would have liked the street names announced instead of just "turn left in 200ft". That option at the time was more $$ and I chose not to do that for our first GPS. I like the interface too. $200 last Christmas at Costco.

Love the Tom Tom. Great graphics. Chips for Europe.

Magellan Roadmate. It's almost 2 years old now, but it works great.

Last week's rental car had one from Magellan that was absolute s***. I wouldn't wish that thing on my worst enemy.

I have a Mio brand. It is excellent. A little cheaper than the more well-known brands in the USA. (IIRC, Mio is more popular in Europe.)

We are on our second garmin (1st was stolen - don't leave the mount on the window, the thief did a smash and grab reaching in the car to retrieve the hidden unit); we have a Nuvi 350, very highly recommended. Great for travel - compact, tells you street names, etc. Higher priced units (360?) have bluetooth and will work as a speakerphone/dialer for your cell phone.

I also love my Nuvi350. My uncle bought a TomTom and had weird routing issues. I gave him my Nuvi to run side by side and see which one gave better routes. He returned the TomTom a few days later.
The only drawback I've experienced with the Nuvi (and I guess they might do a software fix) is the inability to eliminate roads under construction. You can't just let it know that I-95 is closed for 40miles or that you just don't want to take this or that highway.

I have a Nuvi 660 which I like very much. It speaks street names and it is a bluetooth headset for my phone.

I was in the market for these a year ago. I was disappointed that I couldn't find a no frills, basic unit. Read: no MP3 and all that. If I want music, I have the usual stuff. Why MP3 in a nav unit? Am I missing something?

Found this site but not sure how their prices are compared to others. Maybe others can compare with what they paid for theirs and chime in. Worth a look.
