Nicko McBrain is one of the world's most underrated drummers, IMO.
You have to dig deep into the recordings but he does some cool stuff AND he only has one kick drum. Sweet. Maybe they will be used in a cell phone commercial like Motorhead. Bruce Dickenson has a great voice, BTW.

I've been drumming the song on the table while reading other posts. I keep ending up at the big finish with the sustained note and doing a huge freakin' drum solo to bring the song to a close. Man, I am a dork.

White man came across the sea
He brought us pain and misery He killed our tribes, he killed our creed He took our game for his own need We fought him hard we fought him well Out on the plains we gave him hell But many came too much for cree Oh will we ever be set free? Riding through dustclouds and barren wastes Galloping hard on the plains Chasing the redskins back to their holes Fighting them at their own game Murder for freedom a stab in the back Women and children and cowards attack Run to the hills run for your lives Run to the hills run for your lives Soldier blue on the barren wastes Hunting and killing their game Raping the women and wasting the men The only good indians are tame Selling them whisky and taking their gold Enslaving the young and destroying the old Run to the hills run for your lives (repeat to end) |

I wouldn't call them "acid rock". Pretty much pure metal, but imho quickly became a caricature of the genre. They could slog a thunderous riff with the best of them, but for that style of music I'd much rather listen to Deep Purple.
Spinal Tap was pretty heavily inspired by Iron Maiden. |

For some reason, a lot of folks around here have recently been begging to have their man cards revoked.
I'm sorry I missed Maiden here this week, but I was in Tucson and then had to go see Gogar's band on Wed. I've hung out with Nicko McBrain and Dave Murray. Great guys. I need to find those photos and post them here.

I think the cowbell dude on the SNL spoof skit was also named "Bruce Dickenson" for humor value. . .

I would go see them !
Last time I saw them was a couple of years ago along with Motorhead and some guy named R.J. Dio, who (in my opinion) could have just stayed home. In addition to sounding good (through editing and mixing) on album, Iron Maiden is a GREAT band to see live. side note: Motorhead is one of my favorite bands of all time, I'd see them anytime I could, so if they're playing with Maiden again, go see it, period.

I heard Bruce tell an excellent story. He was a commercial pilot for one of the UK shuttle arilines that buzzes around Europe. He was standing on the curb at an airport in Germany with the rest of the flight crew, in uniform, waiting for the shuttle bus to the hotel, when he spied a chord of german metallers (the Gemans take metal very seriously) in full Maiden regallia - boots, studs, leather, heading straight for him and his group . They approached and asked politley for diections on where to get a bus into town. Bruce gave them diections and off they went.....

You might not want to mention Cyndi Lauper to anyone at the concert.

17-18yo's still love a lot of 'classic' stuff when you introduce them to it. Play old metallica for a 18yo metalhead, and he's in heaven. Same for Iron maiden. Young rockers gobble up Zeppelin and Floyd, etc.
