Iron Maiden????
I was invited to see Iron Maiden tonight. I am not too familiar, been listening today to catch up. Sounds like a heavy metal big hair band from the 80"s.
Apparently 17-18 age group love this band, real popular in So America WTF? The lead singer flys the big jet. Any body seen them? Any good?

That's more than likely because they are a heavy metal big hair band from the 80"s.

Great band. The lead singer, Bruce Dickenson has a great set of pipes and is related to Pelican Rob Dickenson. The lyrics are far more cerebral than similar period bands - Rhyme of the Ancient Mariner, Run to the Hills, the Trooper, etc. Brother in law saw them last month and said they put on a hell of a show.

Never was a big fan but yeah AFAIK typical heavy metal band from the 70's-80's also AFAIK they were pretty big once upon a time.
If you go with an open mind it might be a fun show. +1 on bring earplugs.

Never was a big fan, but if someone offered, I'd go. Good musicians, big production and if the music doesn't do it for ya, great "people watching".

are you cereal you are going to a Maiden show and dont know who they are? where were you 20+ years ago when they were at their peak.
Iron Maiden are an English heavy metal band from Leyton in the East End of London. The band were formed in 1975 by bassist Steve Harris, formerly a member of Gypsy's Kiss and Smiler. Iron Maiden is one of the most successful and influential bands in the heavy metal genre, having sold over 100 million albums worldwide[1] without significant mainstream or radio support. The band won the Ivor Novello Awards for international achievement in 2002,[2] and were also inducted into the Hollywood RockWalk in Sunset Boulevard, Los Angeles County, California during their tour in the United States in 2005. Iron Maiden are influenced by Thin Lizzy, UFO, Wishbone Ash and Deep Purple amongst others. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iron_Maiden

I certainly wouldnt call them a 'big hair band', they were HARD/ACID rock. Ive seen them 4-5 times back in the early 80s. Some stuff I like, some just too much. Killers, and Number of the beast , was probably their biggest albums, although Seventh son of a seventh son was good too.
Oh, and say "Hi!" to Eddie for me... |

A few corrections/clarifications:
1) Iron maiden was not a hair band. 2) Iron maiden was formed in the 70s. 3) Iron maiden has some of the greatest story telling lyrics of any band, ever. 4) Iron maiden (and metallica) was the metal band of the 80s. 100,000,000 albums sold worldwide with almost no radio play. Speaks for itself, doesn't it? PS: There are HOT chicks at maiden shows, clad in leather and 4" fuch me pumps. |

That would be Bruce Dickenson. He's a very accomplished pilot and a great guy in person. When he's "in town" he's been known to show up and hang around (and even instruct) at the flight school I used to teach out of. He has flown his Cessna Golden Eagle across the Atlantic a few times (a feat that is difficult and a challenge for an aviator), in addition to his turbine training.
He's one of those guys that I'd have no problem with flying my airplane. He knows a LOT about the subject and takes it very seriously.

Bruce is also an Olympic Level Fencer.
Nicko McBrain is one of my all time fav drummers. Amazing control and chops, and quite a character to boot.
