As a moderator you do read don't you? I wrote that that have golfed for 20+ years...so I don't know why you think I consider those who have contrary opinions "pansy golfers". Does having an opinion that some sports are tougher on you than other sports seem like an alien concept? Is feeling that the media was very over the top in their coverage seem like such a stretch? As far as "everyone", and being "right"...you do realize that the Off-Topic area isn't everyone and that 3 posters ageeing with you doesn't establish fact. Are you and the 3 other guys experts....no, your're now just weekend hackers and former ball players like me, right? You act like you were quoting studies on the stresses placed on the kness in Golf vs. NFL and filling your posts w/ medical expert quotes. Don't pretend that I was ignoring all of the gathered evidence, I just have an opinion based on my experience, observing and competing in those sports.

Nobody blathered, unless you consider disagreeing and defending yourself against the name calling "blathering". By the way, I agree this thread did get weird right off the bat, with the 1st reponse being a total knee-jerk reaction, regarding the underlying motivation for....gulp...questioning the medias treatment of a golfers injury.

Sorry I disturbed your sandbox NOSTATIC, I wil return to the "vehicle oriented" part of the site, where disagreeing (even repeatedly)doesn't result in frenzy feeding.

GOODBYE...have to go earn a living

Golf, no umpires, no referees, no judges to grade your form, YOU PUT THE BALL IN THE HOLE AND WIN.

Go Tiger, or Rocco, I like them both and can't make myself watch and wish one would miss a shot. The BEST PLAYER TODAY will win. No umpires to screw it up, no referees to change the pace of the game. I love it.

I do believe it will be Tiger.

I don't play golf and admit I have a hang up. I think golf is the ultimate "selfish" sport. I know many golfers who spend an entire weekend and many weekdays with their buddies hitting balls and can't help but think how their "personal" time could be better spent with their family or doing something productive. A GIGANTIC GENERALIZATION I KNOW, I ADMIT IT.

I never watch golf but did partake yesterday for the final 2 hours. Riveting. I think Tiger will outlast Rocco today but I'm at work so I'll have to read about it later...

F350Lawman sees an opportunity to clobber all those wimpy golfers out there and capture the multi-million dollar prizes. Go for it, 350. We'll watch. From your perspective, it looks easy. Our perspective is different. From our perspective, golf is a hard game. And it is physically demanding, and unforgiving. But hey......that's just us. You go out there and show us how easy it really is.

It would be great if Rocco could put another round together and win. But I'm afraid even he knows it's not likely to happen.

It is going to be a great day for the game of golf when Rocco wins. It will be another large set back for those who truely love the game if Tiger prevails.

Go Rocco.

Could explain what you mean?
I don't see how Tiger "sets golf back?" I play about once a week and I never feel "set back", are you saying fans are being set back?

The cool thing about golf is that as you stand at the pin and look down where the hole is, it seems so easy and you think to yourself, "I can do this." Then after your tee shot slices into the woods you think, "I know just what went wrong. I can fix that." Eventually you accidentally hit that perfect shot. You know in your heart that the game really is that simple, that you've mastered it, and all the rest of your shots will be as perfect as that one.

And so you stand at the pin, looking down at the where the hole is, and it seems so easy . . .

Play a round with ballsack chaffing, that's gotta be just as bad as a knee hurting.

Yet they say hitting professional big-league pitching is the hardest skill in all of sports.

I don't even consider golf a sport at all.

I don't know who "they" are, but I would disagree with "their" opinion. I have hit against guys who were throwing 90+ heat, and sliders not much under that and thought golf was more challenging. With baseball, the pitcher's release is apparent, you can see how the ball is spinning and know what it is going to do, breaking ball or whatever. I could not say why golf was so much more difficult for me, long lever arm of the club magnifies small errors perhaps.

harder to hit a good softball pitcher than a baseball pitcher.

I wanna see Chuck Liddell and Tiger Woods go at it. Maybe if Tiger is allowed to use his clubs, that would level the field somewhat.

I agree with the earlier comment. What a weird thread.

Tiger inspires a lot of youngsters. He demeanor on the course shows a lack of restraint, he kicks clubs, his bag, slams his driver or other into the ground after a missed shot, and cusses a lot. He does no one any good when he displays this type of behavior, yet he does it every round. The only good he has done is push an interest for the game to more junior golfers.

Before 1995, you could play a 4 hour round of golf, good luck with that now, if you can get a tee time. It has gotten so ridiculous that you won't see me on the course on a weekend anymore. It's too slow. Every Tom, Dick, and Harry is trying to be Tiger Woods and it's clogging up the courses. It seems to me that all these hackers all of a sudden think they can hit that high fade over a tree with a 6 iron to 8 feet, but they fail time and again which often times puts them in a worse position. In the past a punch out put you back in play, and the group behind you didn't have to wait nearly as long for the wannabe to get the flock out of the way. I also don't see many people practicing the proper etiquette of allowing faster groups to play through, and I can only assume that this comes from never having seen Tiger Woods wave a group through on TV. This used to be the norm, but it never happens anymore. There is a whole new breed of players out there, and they just don't understand golf, or how to conduct themselves on the golf course. Players walking in other players lines, playing out of turn, raking a bunker properly, not tending the flag, etc... Golf gained a ton of newbies when TW rolled onto the scene but the newbies didn't 1) find a game on the range first 2) learn the rules and 3) learn proper etiquette.

The game is not nearly as fun as it was 15 years ago.
