Fat, old men and women don't play it at the same level that the pros do.

I played flag football in college. Same as the NFL?

Any idiot can swing a club. See my earlier post and let me know when you can get a 3-iron into a green like the pros.

I'll be here all summer.

Athlete... a person who is trained or skilled in exercises, sports, or games requiring physical strength, agility, or stamina

If it wasn't golf Tiger could have been a strong safety, home run hitter, or right winger.

Nah, i suck at volleyball, but it's still fun to play. Watching chicks play it is even more fun.

Golf fails to measure up to real sports in seemingly every way.

Running a 4.3 second 40 yard dash is athleticism. Dunking a bastketball is athleticism. Crushing a Defenseman along the boards is athleticism. Mastering a golf swing is just simple repetition. Lots and lots and lots of it.

Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

We're talking about golf, not about tiger williams. Even assuming your claim is true. There is no evidence he has the timing to hit a big league fastball or any skills on skates, or the ability to stickhandle a bouncing moving puck, or if he has the speed to play the secondary.

He can golf though. There is no disputing that.

The thread's title is "Tiger Woods". Tiger Williams was a hockey player.
Golfers are athletes.

Yes, but my comments were about Golf.

Tiger Williams was an Athlete. Golfers are not. Not even close.

You know what else is repetition, repetition, repetition...just about everything you do in sports. Do you think that Michael Jordan magically became good at shooting basketballs? No, he kept shooting and shooting and shooting until his form and his shooting became damn near perfect. And that twisting, swooping layup that throws the repetition and form out the window is damn near the same thing that Tiger does when he is in 3 foot grass and hits a low draw 200 yards 3 feet from the pin.

Even IF YOU were an athlete, you still probably wouldn't be able to play golf.

For a non athlete Tiger is pretty athletic. You know he benches 400lbs right? Doesn't sound like a fat lazy bastard to me..... So you don't like golf big deal. To call it non athletic is kind of pathetic. I have a feeling he would drop you in 1 round boxing any day.

Tiger could probably beat him at most anything he tried. That and he graduated from Stanford. Not many of his football, basketball, baseball players can say that, or that they even graduated. Did I forget hockey or someother minor sport?

My favorite sports quote ever, by John Kruk

When some woman was hassling him about smoking while he was drinking.

"You should not smoke, you are an athlete."

"Lady, I am not an athlete, I am a baseball player."

So activities that depend on precise hand eye coordination more than strength or ability to absorb punishment are not sports, good to know.

How long do you think you could bounce a golf ball on a pitching wedge?

How many tries do you think you would need to bounce a golf ball up and hit it in mid air?

Remember that commercial where he was doing tricks, bouncing the ball around, between his legs and catching it on the face of the club, drilling it outta sight at the end? Do you think that was computer generated or something? He was bored, doing that stuff while they were setting up a shot and it was so striking to see what he could do they made a commercial out of that.

Professional athletes are generally good at whatever physical challenge they attempt. I remember seeing Cliff Branch, the Raiders wideout, who is a little guy, dunk a basketball hard with both hands at a charity basketball game. I would imagine many pro athletes would be outstanding at several sports, Charlie Ward, Deon Sanders, Bo Jackson

Not always true. Have you ever seen Charles Barkley (a Hall of Fame athlete) play golf? (If not, consider yourself lucky!)

From personal experience, most "natural atheletes" can excel at just about any sport (or athletic skill) WAY better than an average Joe "if" they practice...and many don't even have to do that . Athleticsm is much like a higher IQ imo...doesn't guarantee squat, but it sure can give you an "advantage" over most if used properly.

So golf is more difficult to play than basketball(or football, how would he have been as a safety, LB or TE)

Hmmm

Isn't this discussing taking a silly turn? Tiger played hurt, with a real injury. He toughed it out in an hard fought win against a great competitor. He's done for the season to get his knee/leg fixed properly. That was a great US Open we were treated to.

Why would you think that? You have no idea what i look like.
LOL.

You also have no idea if Tiger can fight at all. His dad is probably pretty tough though. Ex Green Beret/Army lifer IIRC. Im sure i've had many, many more fights in my time on this earth than him. Probably wouldn't be very fair for tiger. (Pick basketball instead. He'd crush me.)

My athletic "creds": I once scored a 292 out of 300 on the US Army PT test (back in the 80s, not the watered down pussy test they use today). 3rd best in the Bn. Ran a 6 flat 50 yard dash back in the day.(reasonably fast, but not blazing.) I was pretty good at hockey, but no hitting skills at all in baseball. Football is my favorite, i was a running back by position growing up. Never went out for the HS team though because the starter was a superstar. After he left HS he became Penn State's all time leading rusher, and went #2 in the NFL draft (Blair Thomas, picked ahead of Emmit Smith). HE was an athlete. (and also a bust in the NFL)
Of course this is irrelevant, since i never claimed to be an athlete. Just that Golfers aren't.

John Kruk, definitely not an athlete. Fairly decent hitter though. Couldn't run the bases for shiit.

At any rate- Golf is not a sport, nor are the players athletes due to playing it any more than badmitton players are athletes.
