Tiger inspires a lot of youngsters. He demeanor on the course shows a lack of restraint, he kicks clubs, his bag, slams his driver or other into the ground after a missed shot, and cusses a lot. He does no one any good when he displays this type of behavior, yet he does it every round. The only good he has done is push an interest for the game to more junior golfers.

Before 1995, you could play a 4 hour round of golf, good luck with that now, if you can get a tee time. It has gotten so ridiculous that you won't see me on the course on a weekend anymore. It's too slow. Every Tom, Dick, and Harry is trying to be Tiger Woods and it's clogging up the courses. It seems to me that all these hackers all of a sudden think they can hit that high fade over a tree with a 6 iron to 8 feet, but they fail time and again which often times puts them in a worse position. In the past a punch out put you back in play, and the group behind you didn't have to wait nearly as long for the wannabe to get the flock out of the way. I also don't see many people practicing the proper etiquette of allowing faster groups to play through, and I can only assume that this comes from never having seen Tiger Woods wave a group through on TV. This used to be the norm, but it never happens anymore. There is a whole new breed of players out there, and they just don't understand golf, or how to conduct themselves on the golf course. Players walking in other players lines, playing out of turn, raking a bunker properly, not tending the flag, etc... Golf gained a ton of newbies when TW rolled onto the scene but the newbies didn't 1) find a game on the range first 2) learn the rules and 3) learn proper etiquette.

The game is not nearly as fun as it was 15 years ago.

That was going on long before Tiger showed up on the scene. I used to be able to walk the course in 3 hours back in grad school. Then they started requiring carts, prices went up, etc. I don't think that Tiger is to blame. More like society in general has gone down hill. I went to a Dodger game last month and it was miserable.

It ain't just golf. No class in pretty much any sport these days...

That should be it's own thread. As a family I am comfortable going to Padres games - less so when the LA blue are in town - seems to bring out the worst fan on both sides.

I blame baseball announcers who encourage kids to skip school for the ballgame and reminds the little rugrats to have a good cover story to explain missing school for the game.

Wait, that was a Giants game, wasn't it? Well, I guess we expect that at Giants Stadium. I guess the only answer is that Tommy Lasorda is to blame. The Dodgers have never been the same since he went on that stupid Slimfast diet and the country has gone down hill every year since Kirk jacked that one out of the park in 1988. What does this have to do with Tiger Woods? I don't know, I guess I'm just blathering. Nope, the caps aren't on, must not BE. OH, THERE IT GOES. I'M BLATHERING NOW. SORRY GUYS, IT'S BEEN A LONG DAY AND THERE'S A LONG WAY TO GO 'TIL IT'S OVER.

I went to a PGA championship game back in the 90s and there were a sea of schmucks following Tiger around. My friends and I followed Vijay Singh and Freddie Couples around most of the day. We watched one hole with Tiger playing and it was painful. I wanted to punch every dillhole who yelled out, "You're the man!" or "Get in the hole!". I still see that on TV during a round, makes me wanna mute the TV.

Ugh.

Nice playing Rocco, you are the consumate gentleman which all aspiring golfers should look up to. I wish it were different, but a great championship had to go to someone who had the better score after 91 holes.

And the game will sink further into the abyss......

One persons opinion, I am glad most people don't believe the way you do. Rocco was great but lost. He put his name in record books and I am sure his sponsors will pay more now. Even in second he is happy.
Tiger has been great for this game, he will be a good influence for a few more years.

Why is golf like that? You top it, slice it, hook it out of bounds and generally make a mess of things. Then when you are composing your Craigs list ad in your head to get rid of your clubs, you pure one right on the screws and knock it stiff.

Golf is witchcraft.

Going the other way, David Duvall and Ian Baker-Finch couldn't break 80, paired together in a scramble.

That was some good TV watchin. Rocco could have had it, but you can't let Tiger just hang around like that and not put your foot on his throat.

I do agree with some of the comments about Tiger's demeanor on the course, I guess I am a "Tiger fan" in that I love watching the guy because he is the best player since Nicklaus and arguably the best player of all time. When I go to tournaments though, I don't follow Tiger much. I like following Couples a lot. Love that guy's swing, even with a bad back. Payne Stewart was my favorite golfer, I grew up watching him swing and then would go out in the backyard and try to copy it. Prettiest swing ever, IMHO.

I keep waiting for Tiger to mature and get rid of the swearing, but I guess it isn't going to happen. He expects himself to hit every shot perfectly and does react poorly at times. The difference is that he has the outburst and then it's gone and he is right back in the groove. I have never seen Tiger implode in an entire round, it just doesn't happen.

Not the outcome I was hoping for but it doesn't get anymore exciting than that. Rocco did what he had to do and did it well, just couldn't slam the door.

It will be a long time before we see another medal match like that, IMO.

Well, most people say Snead had the prettiest swing, I haven't seen much footage of it, I'm just referencing players since I was born though...
