Yep. That's what the woman explained to me on the phone. She said it's not their place to handle disputes over cars, so they close it. So far the buyer hasn't filed an ebay complaint, or negative feedback. Of course, with the new ebay feedback rules, I can't leave him negative feedback. He's got a lot more to lose in that dept. (500 some feedbacks, vs. my 9)

So it's now been 2 months since the sale. No further word from ebay or paypal, and the deadline for ebay disputes is today, so it's a closed issue. I still never got the license plate back, but it's been reported as missing/stolen, so no big deal. Replacement is $20 and the dealership forgot they even had it, so they'll probably just let it go.

This is my first ever bad transaction with someone from Pelican, though he's only got a post count of 34 and hasn't posted since June 11, so maybe he's not really a "pelicanite". I haven't told him about this thread - not sure if I should or not. He hasn't responded to a single email, so I doubt he'd bother checking in.

I'm selling a car for $1400. You wouldn't believe the questions I get. You would think these folks are shopping for a used Ferrari.

I would.

The friggin' questions I got a year or so ago when I was looking to sell a vehicle for $2,600 were outrageous. The stuff that makes you go "are these guys for real or is someone I know f*cking with me?"

Then they try to cheap you down to $2,300 plus a (probably stolen) DVD player or something. Unreal. Even though the ad said clearly "firm/no trades".

Idiots. I usually just hang up on them as soon as they start wasting my time.

Paul, sorry, I completely forgot to get back to you! Yes, the tranny's fine now - no leaks at all, at least none noticeable with the amount the engine's leaking these days...

Funny, when I sold the boxster, I got very few calls and really no stupid questions at all. I expected a lot of tire kickers, but really didn't get any. With the 944, it was all flakes.

Maybe it's the price range? In the house renting world, if you rent your house for $500/mo you are going to attract a certain, shall we say... 'caliber '... of tenant. At $1500/mo you may screen them out.
I'm always amazed at garage sales at the people who hold up a book marked 25 cents and ask "will you take 10cents for this?" WTF?? Here... have the book, no charge, and here's $5 so you can go get a bite to eat! [I wonder how many people try to return stuff to garage sales?]

When buying beaters (anything under $2k in my book), I ask 3 questions: 1) Does it run? 2) Does it stop? 3) Anything mechanical that needs immediate attention?

That's all you (I) really need to know.

My daily dose of humor has been absorbed.

They would either be driving a new Mercedes or a Chrysler mini-van with 500,000 miles on it...

This thread makes me nervous - since I moved to TX I'm going to try selling my well-documented 924S for $2,500 soon. It's going on Craigslist and I can already foresee the stupid questions I'll get.

I'm glad the story had a good outcome!

Dentist, comedian, tranny rebuilder. He's what women call 'the complete package'.

Probably puts the seat down too.

Nope - see my post above from yesterday, 4:11pm (est). That's why it's so tempting to post his username...

I was selling an 89 mercury cougar with 250K miles. It needed a head gasket (or 2). It ran, drove, stopped and just passed emissions. I was asking $300. The guy asked me if I would take less for it. I replied "You can roll it across the scales for $200, IT IS A 300 DOLLAR CAR" He bought it.

I guess you gotta try.

Where are all of these screaming deals these days?? I've always considered any car that is street legal and runs under it's own power to be worth $1000. You can't find those cars anymore, people think that their 400k mile Civic is worth $4k these days, because it's "efficient"...
