Anybody do thier own Radon mitigation?
I'm buying a home with a slightly high radon level (6pCi/L). It has a crawl space that has seen some moisture. I had the home inspected, and the inspector said that radon mitigation would be pretty simple: Put down plastic sheeting over the crawl space dirt, and vent using a fan and some PVC pipe.
Looking on line, I see a few how-to articles that involve cutting a hole in the concrete floor. Is this just for basements without a crawl space? And why do they always vent out the attic? Wouldn't venting sideways out be a lot easier? I can have this done for $1000. But, hey, thats a set of race tires! Any thoughts from those who have gone before me?

Was that level measured in the crawlspace or in the living area of the home?
No concrete slab? You want to vent out the attic to get the gas away from the living space. Typically the vent pulls from the stone under a concrete slab. http://www.fantech.net/radon.htm |

There is a concrete slab on most of the basement floor. And also a crawl space with just dirt.
I'm wondering if I need to drill into the slab if I vent the crawl space?
