Pre paid cell phone?

Okay, a kitchen remodel will begin here sometime next month. In the interest of preserving a marriage, I plan on hitting the road the day the work crew shows up. Cindy agrees with this, will call me when it's over.

Never have bothered with a cell phone. But figure I'll nedd one on this trip.

Anybody have thoughts on the pre-paid phones? Any one brand better than another?

The work well is you don't plan to use it everyday. When my friends returned to Australia last money, they left one with me that has like $35 credit on it. Everday you turn it on costs $2. This is Verizon and there are other plans. The catch is, the minutes you buy expire, so it can cost as much as owning a regular monthly contract.

Paul,
Cell phones are one of those few things you don't need in your life, pretty much ever...until you have one! You MAY find you can give up on carrying one after the house remodel but most people find once they have had one they cannot do without. I ultimately gave up having a land line and only have a cell phone. I know lots of people that have done this.

Some day (and its going to be soon) kids will marvel at the idea that a person couldn't be reached unless they were at the one or two locations in the world that they had a phone they knew they would be near.

Best of luck with this.

I recommend whats called the Net 10,available at any Walmart. It's 10 cents a minute no matter what, no fees, just $30 and comes with 300 minutes and a 110 volt charger. It's good for 2 months, and if which to let it expire, it does, if you still want it active just get another 300 minute card ( at Walmart) and it will add the unused minutes to the new 300 minutes for another 2 months

Cheers

I have a verizon pre-paid. i got the phone at wall-mart. They also sell refill minutes(which i just bought 30 minutes ago).

It's ok, but it's kind of pricey. Its $1 a day to access the network(triggered when/if you get/make a call) and $.10 a minute thereafter.

I think some of the other services are cheaper. The one Steve describes is a lot better than mine.

Virgin Mobile is another. $20 every 90 days have to be paid. The minutes roll over. $.25 a minute any time. This gets you a cell for $10 a month if you keep it short. We have had one of these for years now. Phones and cards are sold at TARGET.

Verizon "INpulse" prepay. Core program $1 each day used + minutes. Refill $100 or more and you have 1 year to expire. Note all prepay have activation fees. Verizon $35.
Verizon has HUGE coverage. check it out. Wal-Mart sells phones cheaper than the phone Co storefronts. Target puts them on sale.

Here's the way to do a short term cell phone.
Buy a used T-mobile or unlocked GSM phone on eBay.
Also on eBay search for "T-Mobile 5000" and buy a flex-pay sim for about $23.00.
You'll have 5000 minutes, unlimited text, unlimited data, good for 30 days.
If the kitchen takes longer than 30 days, buy another sim.
When you're done - resell the phone, with or without the last sim.

So Paul...

..whom is managing your remodel. Should you have some one on site to make certain the work is progressing timely and your home is locked each evening?

And where are you going during this event. If you are going South far enough for Me to drive North...we could meet and test that new Viper on the green.

Stickman.

Really though Paul, Lock that house each night yes.

Shawn.

T-mobile offers 3 plans, and you can switch them any time you want:

1. Pay per minute for calls, no access fees, no use= no money spent.
2. Lower price per call, but $1 access fee for each day used
3. All you can eat internet access $1/day, calls a bit more than #1. $1 is charged each day you use the phone.

If you buy $100 worth of minutes, the minutes do not expire.

damn, they expire after a few months??

in Europe , most carriers have pre payed sim cards that don't expire...or at least leave you over a year before they do expire...

used that for 6 years while in Holland, only ever used it to be called, hardly ever called anyone myself
